True that too. I am still digging my way through dry plates but i feel like finally getting to wet ones in next month or two :) Not sure where to get silver wire though.. Got to check it out.

Can you explain why you need the springs,can't you just cut the glass to fit your film holder?

Craig, the collodion layer is pointing towards the silver wire. You need something to fill up the gap between the back of the plate and the back slide. Just a piece off a few mm thick foam (depending the thickness of your glass or aluminium you are using) will do the job.

The wires in the corners are just to hold your plate in place right? Why do they need to be silver?

Alex, wouldnt it be possible to use any material instead of silver but just paint it in same way as you suggest to protect alum. by painting? :)
