Unveiling the new wetplate camera from Black Art Woodcraft. A modern modification of an authentic mid-19th century camera, with a variety of plate sizes up to 8x10. The entire process from first contact to a finished, delivered camera took seven months, but the wait was entirely worth it. Check it out and see for yourself!

Steve is good value in many ways. Great communicator, which is important when you're spending big and waiting 7+ months for the work to be completed. His emails are always informative, detailed and most times spiced up with humour and character. Overall the experience has been a very rewarding one :)

Steve made beautiful cameras. I was so sorry when he left Rochester, it was great to see him evolve as a great craftsman.

Apologies for the late reply. Someone flagged your comment as spam! Yes, I definitely recommend Black Art Woodcraft. Steve builds cameras, tripods, darkboxes, plate boxes and racks, and a few smaller accessories. He's currently backlogged with orders until mid-2014 however. Lenses you will have to source elsewhere, but there are quite a few available, either through the members of large format and wetplate forums, or even through eBay.

This is a true thing of beauty. I'm doing research for a film which calls for a wet plate camera and this video is exactly what I'm looking for. No - thank YOU!

So you would recommend blackcraft? What about lenses? Are they strictly cameras? Like your vid!

Have used a BAW camera (11x14) at a Santa Fe workshop (Bostick&Sullivan) and it was a joy. But I'm having major glass envy here after seeing your vid.

I've seen a couple of workshops held at B&S. They really made me wish I lived there instead of Australia! :) The expertise at Bostick and Sullivan is phenomenal, made more so by the guest teachers. Thanks for liking the vid! The glass is awesome. My favourite lens is the mid-sized petzval. Around 150mm f4.5, bought from John Brewer in the UK.

But do you get full coverage on 8x10, or even 5x7, with that medium (150mm f/4.5) petzval?
@GOPhotoVideo
@GOPhotoVideo 10 жыл бұрын
oceandrew I get full coverage on 5x7, but vignetting on 8x10. The black 300mm Tessar and the brass 400mm will handle anything larger than 5x7.

GPV Photography $2000 just for the camera before shipping or?
@GOPhotoVideo
@GOPhotoVideo 9 жыл бұрын
James Walker A ballpark figure only. There were a few custom modifications I asked for, but $2000 thereabouts including shipping. Without shipping, and without mods, it was around $1300
