I haven't used that particular bait, but I've had a lot of luck with a bunch of different species of fish using realistic soft plastics. I usually use Storm's WildEye series; my favorites were the sunfish design - I've caught bass, walleye, even trout - but I can never find em anymore. But my all time favorite soft plastics were Bill Dance's "Dancin' Eel" and "Dancin' Minnow"; they had a fat body like a crankbait and a long tail, so they had the perfect sinuous, wobbly, serpentine swimming motion, and they held up for years.

I used to throw those sunfish so much as a kid and man did they wreck bass. I haven’t been able to find them anymore either unfortunately

Usually, I don't cut any parts on swimbaits. At times when I do, I feel bad because the workers work so hard to make this bait, just for us to cut it off.
