I would never thought of modifying these dies. I do love my steel rule dies!

I love them too! And can be a little scary to permanently change them but definitely opens up possibilities!

Omg! Thank you! I only cut fabric with my dies. I use to make quilts, do hand embroidery and appliqué. So many pretty dies but they don’t work because of these perforation lines. I just need the outline of the shape. So thank you a million times over!!

I tried this today! I wanted to remove a BIG circle in the middle of a flower, so I could just poke my wire through………hours of pulling later…….even my husband tried………I ended up taking the plastic cover off the whole die……and I tapped out the circle from the underneath in about 3 seconds 🥴😆 Job done. The plastic cover slid back on, no problems. Made some pretty ‘sepals’ before I went to bed. 🤗

Amazing video! I've never tried to alter mine but it's so cool that you can. Do you ever share where you get your dies/if you order custom ones? I'm trying to find a manufacturer but some of the wording on their legal pages makes it sound like by getting them to make one, they can then turn around and sell it elsewhere??

Thank you so much! I am actually also looking into custom dies! But have not bought any yet myself. As the starting price is pretty steep! Other then that I get my dies from Amazon, scrapbook.com sizzix.com spellbinders.com. Facebook destach groups and eBay. A lot of companies are getting away from steel ruled dies which is very annoying! So finding them used sometimes is the best bet!

I think I would keep a small board not too thick maybe say a 12" x 4" piece of finished smooth plywood 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick to lay over the dies when they are stubborn pulling to avoid injury. Also it can give you a bit more stablity and added pull strength to have something besides your hand around the edges of the die to hold it firmly down and in place too. Just a thought. As much as I love to call HUBBY can you come and help me...I also love my independence and as he's now passing his mid 80's I'm aware his hands too are stiffer and not as pliable or lets call that flexible these days as they once were. In other words after 52 plus years of marriage have I worn him out? Probably not just thinking why risk injury to him if I can do it myself safely too. I was searching for your videos this size for using steel rule dies. I've had a play date with a friend using a few of the Superdant steel rule dies and she was wondering how these are made. Will of course this video is fantastic since you tore one apart to show and tell at the start. Thank you for this. And now and again I too wish a die did not have an element. I've had my husband file down imprint or cut areas on dies like think dies so in two cases I wanted to be able to use them only on the front edge of a card and the back end of the die actually cut marks across like stitch marks across it but if these are removed I could choose any width of any card and not be stuck with one mini size card shape because not only did it cut the marks into it but about a quarter of an inch further it also cut the card stock completely out. Not sure why some of these die makers don't grasp the obvious but who knows. Limitations that are not needed should be realized and avoided is my way of thinking but die making companies aren't asking my input. Happy to see you going so far to show and share this information with us. Thank you. I've already implemented the blue tape method for defining the dies. Thanks again.

I love your idea of using a piece of scrap wood to help with leverage! And as an independent women myself you bet I will try multiple different times before I ask for help! So happy that this has opened a door to your crafting possibilities by just looking at die a little differently now! Happy Crafting!
