How To Modify Third Party Shells to Fit OEM GameCube Pieces

To people who read this in the coming future, I want to provide an update on what I have learned. A comment asked if it feels as good as OEM and I wanted to leave a public comment rather than a response which would not show without opening the comment string. The third party modifications cannot be fairly compared to a first party. Months after this video, as of January, 2019, I'm still having issues with making one of the controllers feel natural. It is much lighter due to not having a rumble pack., making the controller feel really cheap/fake. Also, the rubber contact pads do not fit well. Because of this, I can't seem to make it feel OEM as of right now. I would hold back against purchasing the third party controllers for now. I'm going to do a lot more testing over the coming months when I'm back in college.

Can you use a bottom half of a OEM shell and the top of a third party shell? Would that be able to fit the rumble motor in?

Nope, the actual button slot for the z buttons do not line up

Would using a taller button pad make the buttons feel more natural?

@@lucasskotiniotis1360 Taller button pads would make the buttons rest higher so probably... but I don't know how you could go about getting higher contact pads.

I bought a White TTX gamecube controller, and all I had to do was remove the 2 notches on the back and that one piece on the front. I used the 3rd party x,y,a buttons, and used the oem membrane for them, used the oem start button with the oem membrane, and kept the oem directional pad with the oem membrane,. Kept the oem z button and also left the third party triggers. Everything came together and I have no issues except for the z button that doesn’t have much room to work with but I tested it and it’s functional. I am planning on painting the oem shell eventually and then I’ll put it all back the way it was. Thanks for the video it did help. 👍🏼

Cirka controllers are a lot better for this, they require less mods, and the buttons fit better. There are even places to put in the trigger guards as well.

Its probably impossible to make a third party controller feel as good or even close to the same as a genuine controller without the use of genuine parts. I would just look for a first party one on ebay.
