Hey I am new to this ELL studies and I only do it in Grades 1-2 right now. I am focusing on when I should swap out modified verbs or tenses as an actual reducing the number of expectations and modifications. I try to model one modified verb at the end of a sentence so that it just appears simple but sometimes it is still too much work for my students!

It sounds like you’re doing all the right things! It’s normal for them to be at different levels as well. So, you may find that your ELLs (and native speakers, if you have those too) will really vary in what they can do. Make sure to focus on speaking and listening as well!

Do you have a suggested tool to shorten the length of a text? My first idea is to leverage ChatGPT. What else?

ChatGPT is my go-to. Just make sure to prompt it regarding the length of paragraphs, sentences, and word syllables if you need it really simplified!
