Hey Home Menders! It's the dreaded "M" word!!.. or is it?, The Home Mender, Dustin Luby, shows us how to use a mold test kit from Mold Armor, so you can know for sure...or not. Get out your q tip cotton swabs, give it a wipe and get this...send it off to a lab with an additional 40 bucks? I couldn't believe what i read. I advise reading THESE directions in the store....ah well, we will do a video anyway :) You can do it! Easy!

You can just do method one (Petri dish indoor air quality ) if mold shows then obviously you have mold and that’s a start you don’t need to send to lab unless you want to know exactly what kind of mold it is.

​@@epicgamingscenesas even the video acknowledged. Sometimes when there's a leak you get something that looks like mold. But isn't this test even without the lab send off? Can at least help you confirm it is mold and at that point most people don't typically care what kind of mold it is. If it's actually mold they want to get rid of and then you can call the abatement center. But there is value in being able to tell if it's actually mold or if it's just weird growth

Sending it to the lab is only to identify the mold that shows up after the home incubation period. If no mold grows then good chance, it's not mold. So you can still test for mold, but you won't know what kind of mold you have if any is detected.

Hey mustache great point. The problem is the people need it rectified before the test comes back so regardless if there was mold present or not it’s Probablyalready been taken care of

There are over 100,000 different types of mold. Not all types of mold are a threat, however. Some types of mold are fairly benign, and some even have medicinal uses.

Pretty much every mold test kit has you send the sample to a lab, which you pay a small fee for, then you'll get your results back on what kind of mold it is. Anyone you call to do the job does the same thing, just within their company, and whatever lab they have a contract with.

We bought a house that must have had window left open for awhile because there are rust stains at both end and weep holes were blocked.Our inspector didn’t even check window sills! or observe that wall had been patched under window What is the least invasive way to check for mold in drywall? When we got advice to unclog weep holes, water came gushing out. Our inspector is coming back to do a moisture meter test. Someone suggest that you can take out baseboard ito check for mold.If anyone else has suggestions please chime in. I’m in The Villages, Florida.

I have seen the baseboard tactic used. Besides cutting into the wall, that would be a less invasive

I'm sending mine in to the lab because I need to know if it's Stachyobytrus or Aspergillus mold. My neighbor got paid $20,000 to move out due to the mold in her unit. California toxic mold protection act.

I'm a novice with an autoimmune condition that was severely affected by high toxic mold years ago and this place that I'm renting now smells of mildew in the bathroom and in the kitchen cabinets so I'm hoping that emailing this stuff to a lab will help me understand. I'm doing the airborne version though. I like your presentation and thought it was pretty funny though

Hey Jana! Apparently you do need to send this mold test kit off to a lab and wait fou weeks. It seems as though we would’ve already removed it , treated it and repaired the area by then :-)

The professional I called didn’t do a control sample outside to compare to the inside air test. He wanted to do $7000 worth of filters, remediation, etc. I’ve been told over and over they do overkill. I’m doing testing myself. Which company is giving you a kickback for this!!

Mold from an outside shingle water leak, that's what I think I have, I smell mold but don't see it. Not sure where to start.

I’m not sure how to smell, mold or what it smells like… It may just be dank and not moldy… Fix the shingle leak first then if you can get to the area, treat it with mold and mildew killer

I just put a piece of my carpet in one of these even though is says to send it in for a fee. It grew lots of mold. I tried to call the company to see if it's legit and means there's mold but they just repeated I need to send a new piece of carpet in. Finally I asked "if I put anything in there will it grow mold" she said "no". So I'm taking that as put the thing to be tested in the kit. If it grows mold then you have mold.

Sending it to the lab is only used to identify the mold, if it grows mold during the incubation period then it shows you have mold.

Yea they have to do an analysis which isn't free. A microbiologist and or lab tech has to be paid and the $10 one pays for the at-home test isn't going to cover that overhead. $40 is cheap for an analysis.
