I love Tom also. I come to a similar conclusion as him for much different reasons. I think typing this out briefly (edit- ok not so briefly :)) may clear my head and maybe help someone else or help someone help me! Definitely want to be involved in the care and raising, few things are more precious. A wife is what I find unnecessary/risky when you're in his position. If anything I'd prefer being a single dad with a lifetime live in/paid nanny. He WANTS a contract to designate child-rearing responsibility. Having been with so many women after being raised to be with one throughout my childhood and teenage years, I can't imagine being content with just one. The bond and familiarity or even trust are far outweighed by other factors for me. A very complex topic is monogamy, which is certainly not a way to keep women attracted scientifically, but as an organizational tool in society, is likely here to stay. The myth of monogamy talks about this and it was funny that at the end of discussing how rare it is in nature among so many species and how it doesn't have use for an entire book etc.. they say that for us humans it keeps society together and is unlikely to change..lol. I have much distaste for and distrust of large government and want them uninvolved from my life as much as possible. Not in a tinfoil hat way, instead for them to have less influence on the population and extending their influence and federal aid in areas of life that were never intended to be under their authority/control/"protection," but were instead left to the states and taxpayers residing in them. Finally, there has been huge overcorrection in family law/divorce courts over the last half century. Before then, women were treated in some ways as 3rd class citizens, corrections were well deserved and starting with the vote, were made. Men since then have become the disadvantaged gender in society. I don't want to go too deep into that, like with metoo movement victims getting instant belief (as the founder recently said, the movement has departed its original intent), but instead keep it on topic with family/marriage. Over 90% of women are the ones who receive alimony. Some numbers suggest 97%. Nearly 70% of all divorces are initiated by women; among the college educated, 90%. So get an education to.. get divorced? lol not sure what conclusion to draw from that. Anyways, I don't foresee a willingness to enter into a business contact (marriage) with the government at any level as the judge of our intentions and also give them the authority to separate myself from my children, my possessions or change my life in some significant way. Whether due to the whim of a woman who decides to leave, my preference for variety of women (I already know this so unless that were to change I couldn't even consider any of this), or even something as simple as her being given default belief in the eyes of the law (as I understand, she could call the authorities and report a domestic disturbance (with nothing having happened) and at police discretion, I could be removed from my own home (paid off by me and deed in my name only). The risks and the downside seem GAPINGLY obvious. The upside is what? My comfort/familiarity/love? That means nearly nothing to me with the risk of losing it. The only real upside is a mother for the kids. If that can be hired out for an astoundingly highly screened (levels on levels on levels x 50) and qualified lady who shares my values, wants to raise a child as her own, be supported for the rest of her life, make memories with us and be the only real "mother" the kids know, that seems like a very strange solution but the only one that keeps me protected and in charge of the growth and development of my kids. As many times as I have thought of that..just thought how funny this might sound- "Mom, you're adopted!"

Tom has a lot of good to say, unfortunately he is also selfish. If I had that much money, it would be so easy to have children and have the time to love them. Like others say, as soon as you see that child, your heart BURSTS with a love you have never known.

Big Life Lessons from this amazing interview: *1. Focus on adding value to people's lives through your work and your job and learning more skills - **31:57* "If you focus in the beginning of your career on monetizing your current skillset, you will never get where you wanna go. Because money only can be spent once when you're really good at investing, which you may not be when young. Whereas skills, can be monetized again and again and again." - 31:57 So, at the beginning of your career focus on what value you can add to the company/job with your current skillset, try to be more curious and learn as much as you can. Ask people who are working on where you want to be, "How can I help you?" and learn from them and take them out for coffee to know more about them and network well this way. Be more reliable and someone people know will get the work done. Surround yourself with kind of person you want to be in the domain, drink it in even if you don't understand and try to grasp as much as you can. 2. Give enough time to the family - 35:10 You have to work but also remember for whom you're doing this and make your priorities clear and be there for people in your life.

Its approximately midnight and im in my little shop at home,repairing, building and thinking ahead about what needs to be done around my house.Im unemployed but have many skill sets that have allowed for my employment and a living. At 45 I've hit a wall/rut and have spun my wheels for just over a year now, not completely sure why but this interview just had my attention because I could see some practices and traits I've utilized for any great leap in success I've experienced. You guys broke it down so I could see the distance I had not covered, Thank You!! BOTH! Getting that I'm responsible for my level of success and happiness in my being and setting short/long term goals, increase my value with learning new skills or the ability to be a part of learning my way out of a rut. Tom, You have a mature outlook about parenting. I will say that as one who is now above 60, there is a different perspective. You have money, so you can pay for help. And you are taking care of yourself. But I find there is solace in knowing I have children. I like being independent as long as I can. But I have younger family, and that is a wonderful thing. Pus grandchildren are soooo fun. Even better than mentoring your own. All the best.
