I am a tire technician and I mount at least 1 tire a day using machinery or specially made tools to do it manually. But about once every 2 years I have to do it the hard way with 2 pry bars and sadly I forget the techniques that make it easier. So I go to KZbin and what do you know I was simply taking to big of a bite. Corrected myself after watching this video. Now I have my feet up relaxing 😎

i don't doubt what you're saying, but you need to find a new shop. every tire machine i worked on uses plastic duckheads on the wheel so it doesnt scratch it, and unless you have runflat tires, you dont need to use a prybar at all. you can push the tire onto the wheel with your hands as long as you have the top bead under the drop canter.

For anybody who is wondering, this is just like you do it on a bike, only the rim is larger and the tire sidewall is stiffer. You want to be careful using something that's sharp at the end for a prybar to make sure you don't rip the bead or it won't hold air.

a tip: lubricate well the inside of the bead facing the exterior of the wheel, it supports the friction involved in the passing over the exterior of the wheel Often, I use a mixture of about 25% liquid dish soap with water tu lube the bead I use it also for loosing the tire bead, I spread this lube and with my manual machine, it is very easy to break the bead( I spread the lube and repeatly apply the force to permit the lube to penetrate the joint)

Good video. The other one I watched was useless. The cameraman kept trying to be a comedian and talked over the guy changing the tire. The guy doing it wasn't very descriptive, he had special pry-bars designed to change tires and all he said was "You do this, then that and then this, and then it's on. Meanwhile the cameraman was focused on him and the tire wasn't even in frame half the video. I got the impression he was more interested in showing off how fast he could do it than trying to show anybody watching how to do it. I spent an hour after watching the other video with no progress. Then I watched this video and got the tire on in 5 minutes. Thanks again. It's snowing outside and my spare was also flat. I'm having a bad day so far. This video just made my day better.

@@Zenairo Almost. Fortunately, I had asked the Manager to look at the wheels before they starting working on the tires. The Manager's exact words were: "they look like new rims". He assured me that they were capable of doing a "professional job". When they had finished installing new tires, every wheel had deep scratches around the perimeter of each rim. As an added bonus, there were what appeared to be peen marks across several of the spokes. I assume this was caused by dropping a tire iron onto the spokes. All-in-all, not a good day.

@crubio94cr4 жыл бұрын
Shops are essential tho which means they don’t close at least here in america so u don’t really have to do this u can just go to a shop and have it done cause if your car has tpms sensors u could break them doing it this way if your not careful it’s cool to learn this but it should be done professionally cause either way u have to balance them after u mount them or they’ll ride really rough
@Yophillips32722 жыл бұрын
@@crubio94cr Actually the corona lockdown was the reason I started mounting tires myself, walmart auto only repaired "emergency only" I tried to explain to them the tire was so dry rotted and had an obvious leak it was an emergency but they turned me away. Everywhere else was so booked up it would have been days before they would mess with it, apparently the beginning of covid made everyone want new tires at the sametime. So I went to HF and got a tire changer/balancer never looked back. Balancing I haven't noticed any change by not getting them balanced "professionally". If anything they feel better because I don't stack like 10 weights on it like walmart does.

Taking off and mounting tires are quick and easy depending on the profile of the tire. What takes the longest is honestly setting up the car on the lift, gathering the tires, then taking all 4 tires to the machine, and balancing, then filing the paperwork properly. Thats not even including the other 5 cars ahead of you as well.
@alialrashidi17644 жыл бұрын
great video. there are some tires that are harder to dismount. there is a trick. you add a solid object to the bottom of the wheel like a 2x4 or a block of metal, wood, plastic..etc. another trick is to use a clamp with a rag on top of the rim (rag to protect the rim) this will hold down the tire from popping up and will make it a 2min job.

The functionality of the personal balancer is great but probably not equipped to handle wheels larger than 15-16". They balance a trailer tire/wheel in the demonstration clip for harbor freight, which is rather unrealistic. Great idea, just not for a lot of modern vehicles.

@mattevans16435 жыл бұрын
You can, but you need something to balance it with. There are literally hundreds of different ones you buy ranging from $40-$35k. The $40 is for older, or smaller sized wheels. It's a pole with a level on it. Works great and does what it needs to. However with larger wheels it's not the best. But it'll get you close. Your best best is to take it to a shop, they can't really s uff the rims doing that.
