How to Mount a TV Using a Full-Motion Mount

I just did a Sanus mount for a new 65" tv. Excellent quality with all powder coated paint on the frame and visible screws. Even though the quality painted parts won't be very or ever visible, it's nice to see such workmanship and detail on a finished product. Installation was a breeze. The motion and movement of the mount, feels like liquid ball bearings, with the perfect amount of resistance and feel. And no backlash, or continued movement when you take your hands from the TV after adjustment. It just simply stays in place right where you left it.

It's odd that most install videos skip the part about how to figure the height of the tv relative to the mount. This one has an app for that ? Crazy. If anyone is wondering how to do that, just put the mount together on back of TV laying down and measure from bottom of TV to top of the wall plate. Then you know where the mount is relative to the bottom of TV....

This is not the same Sanus package we just used but it looks very similar. I want to say that this company is amazing. Not only are the instructions *VERY* clear and well articulated. But it comes with every possible hardware you can need. For each step in the instructions there was a different individually packaged hardware set that said for example "Step 1 Hardware." At the end the product works exactly as advertised and we had more parts leftover than we used (because they include hardware for every popular type of TV). Sanus products may be more expensive but unlike many other premium products, you get what you pay for. For people who are not terribly handy these products are perfect, they come with amazing instructions and almost all the tools you need to install it yourself.

I installed a BLF328 for my Curved 65” OLED and it took about 3 hours (two trips to the hardware store). The TV bracket screws provided were too short without spacers, and the spacers too large when using the provided longer screws. I had to go to the hardware store and get M6 x 20 screws to make this work. Also, the large bolts were almost as long as the wall stud, so instead I used shorter stainless steel ones as to not weaken the wood too much. Also, the mount did not meet up with the studs when mounting in the center of my room, so I used two 100lb drywall anchor screws on one end. The template was real handy and the material quality is great too. I’ve never installed one of these before, but this is not that easy to install for a novice. Definitely need two people to mount this.

How about if the studs don’t line up to center the back plate so the tv can be centered over the fireplace ? My studs are 16 inches apart and don’t line up with the template

You should note a few things from a solo person who went through two of the three easy steps. 1. They note using a stud finder and an awl or tiny drill bit to verify the center. I eliminated the verification step by using The Stud Buddy product. It told me where the center of the stud was so I could drill my holes in confidence. 2. The guide requires a 7/32 in (5.5 mm) drill bit against the stud or a 3/8 in (10 mm) bit for solid concrete/block. However, Sanus buries the most crucial part. They say to go to a depth of 3.5 in (8.9 cm) for stud or 3.75 in (9.5 cm) concrete. Most drill bits in question are too short. So to accomplish this, I used a drill bit holder to make the bit longer. 3. Grab some gray masking tape to keep the template in place. 4. If you purchased a Sanus wall mount model where the wall plate is attached to the wall plate cover (e.g., BLF213), that makes the wall mount installation more challenging due to its weight. I was able to install it by using a 52 in. adjustable height work table. I put a towel on the surface and turned the crank to the max height. Typically that's good enough for a standard installation. However, if you need to go higher (like I did), I grabbed a couple of thick books and stacked them evenly until they were where I wanted (an additional 8-10 inches). It was then effortless to put the wall plate against the wall in front of the template and pencil in the dots. It also gave me an easy way to ensure I leveled everything correctly. Next, I drilled my holes. Finally, I wrenched in the top two lag bolts, removed the books, and wrenched in the bottom two. If you go the book-free route, you'll likely need to move the table away to make room for the bottom bolts. Anyhow, I hope these tips help you solo this. I'm still trying to figure out how to install the TV. 🤔

Yes. They normally all can be moved a little left and right... and the wall plate itself can be aligned left and right as long as it is behind TV.
