I worked for a professional photo lab when I started my photography career and the best way to do it is, cut your board allowing for about a 5mm bleed, and just trim the print with a blade once it’s mounted. If we cut and routered board with the print already mounted we’d be dealing with customers complaints every day, moaning prints are damaged, scratched, dust marks etc. Especially on glossy prints. Really you want to keep your prints protected and away any part of the process until the final stages to maintain quality. 🤓👍✌️

do you use a protective coat on the photo?

Wow, that's a lot of work, and requirement of a power tools that most people don't have.

Would it not have been much less work if you'd cut the board slightly undersize to the print - then trimmed the excess print once mounted to the board?
@AverageJoesJoinery4 жыл бұрын
It would have been less work but I felt it would be awkward to get the alignment spot on so I opted to trim it after it was applied

Excellent demonstration video Joe, nice one, even if a few years ago!… 👍🏻 I have been tasked with similarly mounting some of SWMBO’s photo prints, so this has been very helpful, thank you… 👏🏻

Nice technique and nice photograph! I'm curious whether taking a sharp X-acto knife and running it along the border BEFORE you route the edges would help minimize the tear-out.
@AverageJoesJoinery4 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jeffrey! That would help a lot! Should definitely prevent the paper remnants being left. Will have to try that next time
