If you dont have a beam finder, don't fret, studs can be found by going to a corner and measuring either 16" or 24". You will find a stud in one of those two places and every 16 or 24 inches after that

Why do we care about the stud in the wall? Not familiar with that. What does finding the stud inside the wall do

@@Tunechi65 The most important thing to consider when mounting a television is whether or not your wall can hold it up. Even the most modern, lightest televisions are quite a bit heavier than your largest framed pieces. Because of this, the location you choose will need a stud (or two) to anchor the screws. Use a stud finder to locate the studs in your wall to determine where you can hang the TV. Do not attempt to use drywall anchors to hang it. Eventually, the anchors will get pulled through the drywall and your TV will end up on the floor. No stud? Choose another location that does have a stud where you need it.

So what are the string in the back for? I've never mounted a tv and I need to do one tomorrow

Quick release. When you want to dismount the tv from the wall, pull on the string/strap so you can "unlatch" the tv from the mount plate.
