Well explained except for the part about how to actually “move the ceiling light” to another location THAT DOES NOT HAVE MAGICAL WIRES COMING DOWN THROUGH THE NEW HOLE YOU DRILLED. Honestly, it is and it’s why this video sucks so much. It ranges from very easy, to needing to put a ton of holes in your walls. If it’s an exterior wall with insulation, it’s extra tough. If there are lots of studs / joists / fireblocking, etc. in the way it’s even harder. This video sucks. Honestly the easiest if it’s a close relocation would be to splice new wires to the existing fixture and run it to the new. But by code you’d need to leave a junction box where it last was which could look unsightly on a ceiling. If the light’s new location will move closer to the direction the wires enter the cable, and if both sets of wires enter from the same side of the light’s box, then you could just cut back some ceiling drywall, pull any staples securing the wire to the joists, then relocate the light. You’ll have extra wire at the new location and can just cut the extra off. Then you’re just repairing drywall in one location. Repairing a plaster ceiling though is tougher. Really, knowing how to repair walls well is step one. It’s not hard, but still is step one.

It looks like this guy is planning to cover that old fixture box, which is now a junction box, with drywall. You can't do that. It's against NEC code and is also very dangerous.

I was expecting/looking for info on cutting/sawing a hole in the ceiling to accommodate new fixture. Is this just totally unnecessary? Or is this a much easier way to find & thread in old wire to new location? Also, for newbies, how about an explanation of a ceiling joist & how to locate it? (I think most people are moving fixtures from one dry-walled/finished ceiling location to another - and not working with an unfinished room.)

So are you drywalling over a junction box? That's not good right?

This is fine for a utility space, but if you are working in a finished room you will probably also want to relocate the existing junction box. A much more detailed process.

What do you do if you have power coming in on one side (black and white) and the switch from the other side (no power to switch) I've tried several ways and the breaker keeps popping.

No, you can't mud over it if you've just extended the new light fixture from the old location, as the video showed. It would be a fire hazard.

The old wire is probably stapled to the rafters so you would need to purchase a small piece of similar wire. 12/2 or 14/2 whatever your code calls for.
