My instructor never taught me to set the gas... He said that wears the clutch... He said i must only use the clutch to move off unless we're at an incline and i struggled for a long time because we were using different cars as well... I found setting the gas very useful for finding the bite point..

it's not that hard people.. basically when it stalls that means you didn't give it enough gas and let off the clutch too fast..once the car shakes press the clutch back in and then try giving it gas while releasing clutch ever so slightly..never just take your foot off the clutch rapidly. keep that thing pressed until you get going.. be very gentle and remember press the gas. these videos will help

@retetsemasitise3063
@retetsemasitise3063 Жыл бұрын
If you do that while the car is in a very low speed that it may stop it wont be a problem as such. On the other hand, that would be detrimental if you are travelling quite fast as you could increase speed and it is going to be a struggle to stop or slow the car down.

My teacher says I should first let the clutch come up to the biting point before pressing gas, whereas you state to first press gas (slightly) before releasing the clutch until the biting point. Is either method fine? Is one better than the other?

I thought I would be better at driving a manual than I actually was... tried test driving a Miata and stalled it a few times because I wasn't used to matching the clutch with the gas. The hardest part is stopping, going, and inclines... when you're cruising, switching gears is easy.

Hopefully, you're at least still going out for a 20-30 minute drive every few days though - like any skill, you can easily lose the nuances and have to relearn them (although it will be quicker since you already knew them). I passed a year and a half ago and during these lockdowns, anytime I don't drive for like 2-3 weeks straight, which thankfully isn't a lot), there's always something that goes off a bit in that first drive after - like finding the biting point consistently or remembering to apply enough gas or even just that feel where you can somewhat judge your speed a bit better when you drive regularly so, you don't unwittingly go 30 in a 20 zone or something. I'm definitely trying to keep driving often and on different roads and routes too so, I don't get complacent.
