@growparadise if you add a mulch annually over rhizomes such as ginger and cannas, are you not increasing their depth within the soil, and therefore affecting their growth the following year?

Great video again Craig. One thing I'm thinking about is actually buying some worms to put into my garden to take my mulches down better. I've seen you can buy them online quite easily I just need to do more research on which type of worms are best and where to buy from. Do you know any info on this? Cheers.

Is it too late to mulch if spring bulbs and various perennials have already started producing shoots and unfurling leaves? If not, how do you go about it - mulch around the shoots? Or will plants be able to push up through the mulch, even though they’ve already got going?

If you use woodchip in late autumn, do you need to remove it to mulch in spring? Or do you just add over the autumn mulch?

Add over the autumn mulch, it all works together to bring the soil to life 😁

Hello. I am considering using mulch in my garden for my garden path. I have read that while they are good, mulch can also attract mices, snugs and snails. Is it correct? Please share your experience. Thank you.

Nice one Craig...any comments on ook leave? I have shitloads of it and basically remove most, compost some with the rest of what i take out fo the yard. Leaf moulding process is new to me...how does that work? Cut it up with chipper , apply 2"???

Leaf moulding can be very easy. First option is to use the traditional compost pile technique but specifically for deciduous leaves, when rotted apply. Or as you say, chop them up and apply to your garden beds where they will natural breakdown. 👍

Nice vid again Craig, liking the orange! Two questions, 1. I had a load of virgin wood chip available to use. Contained some conifer chips. Is that OK or does fresh wood cause issues with Nitrogen consumption and affect pH? 2.off topic but i just bought an Albizia julibrissin (currently just a stick in the pot essentially) and wanted to plant it in a bed that only has a slatted fence for shelter from wind. I'm about a mile from the coast so it can get pretty windy - how well do these trees take wind in your experience?

Hi Dan, the nitrogen will move from The top few inches of your soil into the wood chip as the bacteria break it down. Once this is complete it will be incorporated back into the soil naturally. It's only a temporary and natural shift. Pine needles can make the soil more acidic, but this is often beneficial to many plants. Your albizia will be fine in windy conditions, mine used to shrug it off and still look fantastic 👍

@@GrowParadise thanks for speedy reply. Good know on the wood chip! I'll tag you once the Albizia comes into leaf. Assuming they've actually not just sold me a stick in a bucket....

Absolutely, most of the nutrients will have been used up but it will help break up the clay soil a little.

Great video to explain benefits of mulching. You covered autumn mulching but what is best to use in spring?

Everything that is rich in organic matter, rotted manure, spent mushroom compost, homemade compost are good. They will feed plants as they grow 👍

If someone said to me "paint your walls orange it'll look good". I would of laughed at them. I'm not laughing now, I think it looks great.
