Love these tutorials, you just explain what's important, no clickbait, no saying things that doesn't matter, just what says on the title

using mb dynamics for this results in a non-neutral summing; i hope everyone realizes this. It's not a deal-breaker, but do pay careful attention. The way to do it with perfect summing is to use clever phase cancellation in chains (i.e. make a rack with two chains, drop a hi-pass filter into one and phase reverse the other one. The second chain will now only pass the frequencies filtered out by the first chain)

3 extra chains with both methods combined would work quite well then...

How did you multiply your voice at 5:20, Multiplier? Using some kind of multiplying plugin? Can you multiband this multiply effect Mr.Multiplier? How far have you gotten on multiman melee? My milkshakes brings multi men to the yard. Cant tell if im creative or stoopid.

I wish someone could explain to me what the point of the input / output knobs are... If I want to turn up the volume on a certain band, do I just raise the output?, idk...

I did some analysis on this a while ago and it seems that if you do the same thing but with 3 different x4 cut EQs you get more control over the frequency bands because the slope using the Multiband is a bit lesser than the 4x cut on eq eight

Hey MUltiplier, how do you create a limited amount of range that a macro knob can have in Ableton's instrument rack macro function? Say, if you wanted to set a knob to only go from 12 - 48 instead of 0 - 128, similar to Massive's function.

Looks pretty simple and helpful, but how do I now select the midi or the sound I want to get affected by this? (Ping pong delay in this case) Pull that multiband + Ping pong delay in the same track as my sound? Or over a whole Part of the song (so that it selects the parts that get influenced by itself) or what? Sorry if that sounds silly but I'm completely new in ableton haha

neat ....loved your approach but importantly 2 things...one the go around for effecting independently different parts of the frequency spectrum....like the approach a lot ..and i'd not done this with compression before so a real eye opener..but i'll use that as a segue to my next point that i gleaned from your tutorial ...and this is one where ableton users might be unhappy with my comment, and i suspect ableton themselves who have designed what they see as an effciient DAW, but i'll shoot it anyways. i'm working almost exclusively on ableton and have for years. I've reached an impasse though with the quirkiness of the effect racks all stuck at a fixed height in the bottom. the technology exists as is already the case with EQ8 and i think at least one other effect to explode...oh of course ...wavetable as an instrument..but the technology exists to explode as pop ups the individual plugin you're working with ........3rd party plugins can easily do this ...waves etc..but ableton's native plugs cant...and in watching the tutorial ..it was clear that you're having ...(and others i'm sure) having the same problem.....squinting ...poor ergonomic body positioning ...just to see the smaller than necessary information......even on large screens...and i use 32 and 26 in parallel..but come on abelton...let's go all the way in 11....great tutorial.

What about setting the crossover frequencies of each multi-band processor so that the highs mids and lows are each split into three bands?

Hi Multiplier! Every time I use that method I A-B the original sound with the mutliband rack (with no other fx, just multiband) and it sounds different (different rms and/or peaks and/or phase). I'm I doing something wrong or is that just a consequence of this trick? Thanks for the cool video! Keep up the good work.

Sandro Pacella splitting a signal into multiple bands shifts the phase at the location of the crossover frequencies. Think of it as eq-ing out everything but the desired band with a non-linear phase eq and then stacking the three on each other.

Erik Rinaldi Hi! That's exactly what I thought, thanks for the quick and awesome reply. Do you know about a method where it is possible to separate bands (like multiplier does in the video) without hearing this weird phasing issues? Thanks in advance! I really appreciate it when the comments of a KZbin video become a helpful tool to learn about tough subjects like this one :)

Look up multiband phase inversion rack on google and find the Dubspot racks. Those don't affect the audio at all when it's summed. I made a 9-band one with theirs.

Thanks for the great video Multiplier :) Problem though at 2:52 when you're soloing the chains: I click on the Highs chain and solo them, then I click on the Mids to solo them but the Multiband Dynamics still has the Highs soloed. I can't select make all three chains soloed individually. What could be the reason for this? Cheers

Ping pong delay was a bad example to use for manipulating a band since you can already eq the delay inside the plugin but still thanks for this!
@armendhammer
@armendhammer 7 жыл бұрын
yeah but when you raise the wetness on the delay, the frequencies outside of the filter you set lower in amplitude

already confused before I'm even a minute into the video. Why must I double check that those ratios are at 1? man, I'm so behind. How do people learn all of this complicated stuff? I know music theory and how music works and how to be creative with music but when it comes to editing music I get kicked in the ass
@ALGband
@ALGband 6 жыл бұрын
Jennings Gardner try to learn 1 thing at a time or break it up into small bits. He’s saying to check that the ratio is at 1 when you’re starting so that there is no compression happening by default.
@jenningsgardner2205
@jenningsgardner2205 6 жыл бұрын
Austin Gardea I mean yeah I do try to learn one bit at a time I just don’t know where to start. I just learned you’re supposed to combine all midi tracks into a single audio track before editing/mastering. I’ve been wasting time editing each of my midi tracks one at a time. Smh
@ALGband
@ALGband 6 жыл бұрын
Jennings Gardner it helps to convert your midi tracks to audio tracks. When mixing, you still want them separate though. Like if there is a piano midi and a bass midi, they should be their own separate tracks. Mastering is when you usually want a stereo track of all your tracks combined.
@jenningsgardner2205
@jenningsgardner2205 6 жыл бұрын
Austin Gardea OH ok then I’ve been doing it right somewhat. So if I have like 27 tracks total, it’s probably wise to separate the highs mids and lows into separate audio tracks, mix them, THEN combine all 3 into one audio track to master it?
@ALGband
@ALGband 6 жыл бұрын
Jennings Gardner multiband compression can be part of the mastering process. So no I don’t think you need to do it first. Just do it on the final stereo track after you are done mixing. In this video, he is showing a certain technique, but it’s not the only way to use it. Also, if you’re still fairly new then I think less is more when it comes to effects/plug-ins. Don’t use them just bc you think you’re supposed to use it. Lots of great recordings have been done with minimal effects.
