Really, really great stuff... if I may, I'd add a couple from my own experiences as a touring sideman. -Learn to dance. Even if you don't move much, what you look like on stage matters. Some basic footwork goes a long way. -Learn languages. You never know when those 2 semesters of French class will get you out of a sticky situation on tour. -Many bandleaders are "producers" or "singers" and not "musicians". Learn their jargon and don't expect things like "more accent on the syncopated notes, please" -When it's time for your solo, you're no longer a sideman. Own the stage.

He does kinda? He seems attached to both, don't get me wrong, but I recall him mentioning that he bought a second Strat, same model, same finish, i think some Seymour Duncans instead of the ones in his #1. You can see it on the Sirius XM sessions Vulfpeck did awhile back. It being identical, idk which he used for the trampoline shot but i would guess its #2

What do you mean by 5 over 4 chord? The 5-chord of the key with the 4 as Bassnote?
@chrispfeiffer51783 жыл бұрын
1:47 I am grateful that you address this. Why not try “side performer” or “side act”. I am no native speaker so I’m not sure how that might sound to you, but I think that might work - or maybe some of our “non-male cats” can let us know if that suits better? 🙏🏻 I was surprised that in my language such a term doesn’t even exist! I mean it’s German. We have words like “Bodenseeschiffahrtskapitänsmütze“. Back to topic. Much appreciating your awareness here, Cory.

Great stuff, Cory. It reminds me of some things I've read in interviews of guitarist Dave Keary, long-time member of Van Morrison's touring band. For example:
Playing in Van Morrison’s band has set him a whole new set of challenges. Van is up there in the pantheon of artists amongst Dylan, Paul Simon and Neil Young. The catalogue of songs in his career is huge and Van does not work off a setlist live; he’ll just pick a song and go with it. “I have learned nearly 300 songs of Van’s. And I have another 200 to learn,” says Dave. ...There is a public misconception about Van being difficult to work with as a musician. Dave describes the soul legend as a generous band leader. “He gives latitude and scope to the players to bring something to the table. He is very open to that, not dogmatic at all. It is a very inclusive arrangement, a lot more than people would think.” “He works so quickly and he has a clear and focused vision of the way he wants things to sound and how to achieve that. He comes from an era greatly influenced by Ray Charles and all these jazz and blues greats. The pace is incredible and he goes for an ensemble recording. The essence for Van is capturing that soul and energy from a performance. It keeps you on your toes as a musician.”
Corroborates your "How to Musician" lessons beautifully, I think! @winnipesaukee92523 жыл бұрын
@@hanslarson3646 On the Vulf channel, there's some videos Jack made teaching the piano chords to some of the songs. I've watched them and every time Jack plays a 4 over 5 chord, Jack says so and shouts "the classic!" So I'm just assuming based on that.
@theodorediuliomyers3 жыл бұрын
maybe but jack didn't invent that chord or anything lol. It is in a lot a vulfpeck songs though so could be what he was referencing
