You can mute someone without disabling all permissions for @everyone, but it will take a little more work. What you need to do is make a new role and call it "Muted" and then you just have to disable all the permissions for the @Muted role and then go through every channel's channel settings and make sure that send messages is disabled in all channels then anyone who has the @Muted role will not be able to send anything unless they have a role with administrator permissions.

Man some kid messed up with my server and now every time I mute someone they get the mute role and it still allows them to type. I tried muting with every bot and the same things happened. Any advice?

if they have the mute role, then make sure that role has the send messages and view channel turned red in every channel. My best advice for muting is all in this video, so hopefully it can help

​@@bravyfn5154idk if you've figured it out already since this was 2 years ago, but for me I don't have that problem, and I don't even have the 'remove all roles until you unmute' checkbox checked, maybe you just gotta make sure the Muted role is on top of a members role and then go to each channels settings and make sure you disable like chatting permissions etc

You probably already figured it out since it was 2 years ago, but are you using dyno to mute, if so, the duration is using just the first letter in the durations word like 5m, not 5min, other examples 30s, etc
