I guess it’s like a built-in focus limiter.

I think it is a true rangefinder camera, since it relies on triangulation for focus. The difference is, instead of you setting the range, the triangulation is done by the AF system

Hello is it possible to lock the desired focus distance on the G1? I mean, the ring can easily turn to another distance while taking pictures if i'm doing street photography for exemple and not taking much care.

Hey! I don't think you can lock it unless it's set to AF. So my best bet is to just be mindful and check before shooting every time (I know, might not be fast enough for streets 😅). The other extreme way I might do is to just tape it up! 😂

I'd say the safest way would be to do the zone-focusing method as explained here kzbin.info/www/bejne/a4SWnpdvbLGmeNE Since the Contax G focus wheel is not the most detailed one

Mine doesn't have the tripod socket either. I just put it on a quick-release plate (which is already flat), and hope for the best nobody knocks my tripod 😂

Very informative video, thank you! I recently bought a Contax G2 kit with the body, 45mm lens and the TLA 200 flash. I'm looking for a sturdy camera bag with nice padding that I could fit the camera in with the mounted lens, the flash, as well as some rolls of film. Do you have any suggestions?

It's not an SLR viewfinder, where what you see isn't exactly what you get, so the hood will be out of the way of field of view anyway. It's around the edge of the lens, not in front of the lens. Do you by chance know what it means when there are squares underneath the infinity sign and 0.5 when I’m shooting/focusing? Usually it’s only just one square. I’m wondering if that means the camera isn’t able to focus when there are two squares

It means subject is too close to be in focus.
