Thanks a ton Dan. As always great lesson. I wonder why I didn't find your channel 4 years ago when I got into bass guitar. I went accross so many bass guitar channels and learn all the theory but came to a point where I didn't know how to implement or use them. Thanks a lot for your time and wish you a great year ahead! God bless you! 😊

Thanks for the lovely comment! I've got so much from bass playing concepts that I've learned through years of gigging and recording. I love passing that on so there's a lot more to come. Happy new year and thanks for watching!

I really want to thank you for helping my growth through lockdown. You are forever stimulating my brain. A lot to take in sometimes but like you said in this video the more you practice the easier things become. I was able to keep up with this one. The minor pentatonic scale is my favourite scale. I just get lost when you say things like “major 7th” etc. Need to study more Theory. I’m used to numbers. Great work.
@OnlineBassCourses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Yes, there's a lot of info but, actually, you'll start to notice the same things coming up over and over again. Including "major 7th" etc. Which is just numbers (in a scale): onlinebasscourses.com/bass-line-creation/intervals/. Great to hear that you're continuing to grow - keep it up!
@soulstart894 жыл бұрын
@@OnlineBassCourses this helped a lot. I always got confused when a scale has less than 7 notes and I heard major or minor7th. I now get that it’s reference to the distance of the octave of the scale.

Good lesson Dan. Learn the shapes, patterns, fretboard and chord professions. Simple. All these come together fairly quickly if you put the time in consistently. Happy New Year in advance from Australia, cheers 🥂.

Thank you for this video,I just started learning bass about 4 months ago. I have learned a lot from your content! I'm struggling with my timing coming back in from "baby fills" lol.
@OnlineBassCourses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Nadine and keep practising! It’s a very common struggle but you’ll get there. Isolate the fill, make sure you know it will then introduce a metronome. Slow first then gradually speed up. A bit every day and you’ll improve steadily.

Another great lesson. I hope this question isn’t too random, but I’ve been really focusing on improving my timing, and I’ve noticed that I want to pause before the last note of a 12 bar blues, which causes me to be behind the beat a bit. I’ve noticed that it sounds better if I don’t emphasize that particular note, but I’m wondering if there’s something unusual about the final note/beat of a 12 bar blues.
@OnlineBassCourses Жыл бұрын
I’ve never noticed anything unusual about that beat! There are lots of different types of blues though and maybe it’s a particular one you’re listening to.

Very interesting lesson. Is a fill similar or same as improvising? Happy New Year Dan!
@OnlineBassCourses4 жыл бұрын
Thank you. The way I did them in this video (and most of my videos) is very much improvised. It’s the same principle as a solo but a slightly different role I guess. You can’t go too wild with fills! Unless it’s appropriate of course. It’s all making stuff up though at the end of the day.

Hello, thanks a lot for this solid lesson. I HAVE A QUESTION... I clicked the link and went to the Online Bass Lessons site to get the backing track for this lesson and I couldn't find anyway to download the track or to loop the track within the browser in order to practice the fills over the chord progression. Is there any way to do this? Also, I want to say that I really appreciate the layout of the lessons on your website. Its all the there on one page in a concise and easy to access format. This is really GREAT!! I just watched your walking baselines lesson too and its perfect because am about to start leaning Jazz Standards to improve my fluency over the fretboard. And because Jazz is extra-terrestrially awesome. All the best and thanks again. Brandon
@OnlineBassCourses4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the nice words! Hover to the right of the audio and you'll see three little dots. Click on them and then you can download it. You can also play it in the browser but, unfortunately, there's no way to loop it. That would be cool though... But you can use your DAW to do that too. Or just click play again I suppose...

Scott's good, once you've trudged through the footage of his house; garden; car journeys; kids; celeb' chums & dog! Mark is way better at getting to the point and giving value for money. Ditto Davey Pollitt; even bought a private lesson from him. You seem to be generating a lot more material, and from what I've seen you are simply in a class of your own, Dan! So what's the deal: are you going to be offering paid membership, dedicated courses & so on?

Wow. I have a huge amount of respect for those guys so that’s a huge compliment. Thank you! All the lessons are free but I do have a premium Funk Course and some books. Thanks, Dan, you're welcome. I'm returning to playing at 60+ after a gap of more than 40 years. Back then I was just about able to keep up with Sid Viscous. I got a bit better and was able to emulate some of JJ Burnel's stuff, but then 'life' kicked in (I believe this is something of a pattern for many of us old g*ts!). My number one bug-bear is muting (something I never even knew mattered in 1979!). Nowadays, I play Blues and funk pretty much exclusively, but still struggle to find a 'universal' technique' that keeps the strings quiet. I know there's: floating/semi-floating thumb; fixed anchor; raking; rest-strokes and so forth, but when I watch top players they seldom appear to use one approach exclusively. If you could do something on that 'issue' I think you'd please a lot of folk. ( :o ) ))

I have some muting exercises in my new book and I also have this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4KVkJaMiKeLfdE. It should help you!
