Thank you, Dan. I love this lesson, especially the 1/16 note swing.

Hey dan I’m confused maybe you can help me out. On the a minor triad you hit the E on the second fret on the D string wouldnt that be like the 6th or 7th note in the sequence? where instead I’d start on the A and hit the C for the third and the E on the 7th fret 2nd string for the fifth.

This is the first video where I've seen someone show the 'through' the strong method at a different angle, to really see what they are doing. Great stuff!

Hi Dan, thank you, excellent lesson. A one-groove bass line I like is Rick James, Give It To Me Baby. It’s got a quick double pluck element to it.

To prevent teraring up the fingerboard stop shaking the notes sideways. Check out some Cello players for vibrato technique.

Absolutely fine on this bass. Both methods of vibrato are totally appropriate for this bass. Yes: on some other fretless fretboards, you do have to be careful. This bass also has flats on it.

Trying to learn bass - how come the thumb is resting on the string?
@dragofireballz1072
@dragofireballz1072 Күн бұрын
It mutes that string when you aren't playing it. It takes some getting used to but its essential for bass playing and after a while its second nature
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Күн бұрын
It’s one place to rest the thumb and also mutes the string. You can also rest it on the pickup and also use ‘floating thumb’ muting where your thumb rests against the strings, moving as your plucking hand fingers move: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4KVkJaMiKeLfdEsi=XgSUgT_W2w3NJrd7

It’s calling floating thumb It helps keeps the string from rumbling. Keeps them muted 🎉

What’s the difference between F#7 and F#? It’s on string E: second fret for both right?
@tonykato5945
@tonykato5945 Күн бұрын
F#7 have E in it, so you can play E note over F#7 chord and F# note over F# chord
@OnlineBassCourses
@OnlineBassCourses Күн бұрын
F#7 is a chord symbol: F sharp dominant seven. It contains the chord tones: root, major 3rd, perfect 5th, and minor seven. All notes that work well in bass lines over that chord. F# is a note. Yes, it’s on the 2nd fret, E string.

You need to do more scale/technique videos without speaking. Just play the notes... In time, so I can learn the sound and feel of them while I sleep. Like books on tape but I need an 8hr, non stop "tutorial" on here without the human voice interrupting

In the grand scheme, I think I have made a decision since I'm a shred-n-sweep symphonic style guitarist but love the bass and need to get back into playing one more frequently. My bedroom rig is a halfstack with an all tube head and a solid-state head stacked on it lol. *I don't want to deal with fiddling with devices when I want to play bass but acoustic basses leave much to be desired with volume output.* The resolution is I have 2 dozen guitar amps, I can just add one to my bedroom setup for bass. As it is, I still remember the first time I had an acoustic bass 31 years ago when I was 15; *the overwhelming majority of them are incredibly quiet compared to what the expectation their visual appearance invokes.* I suppose in the grand scheme of things, an acoustic bass is worth owning but you're still generally going to want to plug it into an amp most of the time.

Another great offering by Dan Hawkins; thanks again. This is Howard. I wanted to recommend the KZbin Channel pdbass. Lots of good musical history there. That is something I know that you have explored. Quite often he will even break down elements and names of specific players of various parts. One I checked out a few months ago was "Why is Tower of Power So Funky". There are many more and I love the historical information that you offer [ I purchased several of your books] and also pdbass. I am still practicing from 2 to 4 hours per day depending on my schedule. Keep up the great work that you are doing. Blessings
