I have always fought a cupped wrist position at the top of my backswing. I never realized that my setup was causing my cupped wrist. I did what you suggested, and hit much more consistent iron shots. Thank you.

I used this swing thought for the first time on my last round of golf. I hit 2 small buckets on the practice range to basically warm up before my round. Then I went to the #1 tee and used this preset routine for all 18 holes and I was blown away on how this one adjustment made me hit the ball very solid. I made 2 birdies and shot 5 strokes lower than my average score. I will try this again on my next round. I am looking forward to see if it works again.

Can't wait to try your setup 'trick'. I cup my wrist at the top with my driver and sometimes fairway wood. I think of it as a yip and use a number of swing distractions to stop doing it. I've become an expert at stopping the downswing when I feel that 'over-the-top' position and then I'll go to a handful of distraction techniques to hit the ball straight. I have the real training device so won't have to use a hanger but I'll give that a go first. Thanks for addressing this problem so well.

No. It all depends on the grip. If you have your logo facing all the way up that’s a cupped wrist position. You want ur logo facing more towards the target.

Thank you so much for a great lesson. I’ve always had problems from trying to hinge in backswing and then manipulating wrist to make it flat at top of backswing. Great advice re aiming glove logo up and away.

Thank you! I will give this a try. I am struggling right now with a cupped wrist at the top of my backswing that leads to a shank-like hit off the tee. This is absolutely a round wrecker because I continue to struggle with it for the next couple of shots or I over correct and bow the wrist which leads to a hook! 😩 This sounds like it may help me. Thanks again!

This is great - I have a strong 3 knuckle grip and, straight away (using this) I've figured out how to avoid the cupped wrist I sometimes end up with.
@SingingBarber21Ай бұрын
Game changer! It’s much easier to hold a position that’s already there at set up rather than trying to actively bow your wrist as you take the club away. Set it and forget it!

Felt this at the range last time I went. I was amazed at how effortless the swing felt when keeping my wrists flat or slightly bowed. Finally realized how bad I cup at the top of the backswing, which causes me to come over the top with an open face.. two things you don't want. As soon as I exaggerated and made myself feel like I was bowing my wrist, I literally could not come over the top, and I also finally got my face square. This simple move made everything in my downswing butter smooth. Feels to me like I'm turning the top of my wrist toward the floor or "twisting a door knob".

J your tip has definitely helped me hit golf shots more solid. Unfortunately, I tend to hit a lot of shots left with the flat left wrist. What adjustments should I make to hit golf shots straight on a consistent basis? Thank you for your great videos!
@unclejohn37 Жыл бұрын
Maybe your irons are not correct for you and are too flat making the toe strike 1st opening the face ( if you are a left handed golfer that is ) polar opposite if you are right handed golfer. The lie could be to upright pulling the ball. Try a range with the fake grass mats and see if the stains on the irons are either inside heel. I had same issue left ( I am left handed golfer ) my clubs were to flat for me which cause me to toe the club face creating the left push.

Great video and drill. What I find is I keep a flat wrist during my backswing up until I last bit when I raise my arms or start the downswing, that’s when I cup. Is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Interesting observation that removing the cup at address will prevent it from happening at the top as long as you aren't vertically hinging the wrists. What is your opinion of using a slightly weaker grip to remove the bow at address rather than using a forward press?

I’m struggling with the takeaway concept at the minute. I’ve really drilled in a more ‘closed’ face takeaway, but when I do that if I keep that wrist angle and move to the top, the clubface is wide open and wrists are cupped. If I I gradually flatten the wrists during takeaway and up to the top, that would look on camera as if I keep the clubface open during takeaway, but the wrist is perfectly flat and clubface perfect at top. Anyone else not understand this. Try at home and see what I mean ,
@hunter4net501 Жыл бұрын
Is this why some golfers use pushing the club slightly forward as a trigger in their swing? To banish the cupped wrist?

Trying the bowed wrist has always made me hook the ball because I feel like I’m closing the club face at the top of my swing when I bow my wrist

I seem to find a lot of opinion that the left wrist should be slightly (key word) cupped at address, and that a "forward press" (taking the cup out) at address is not a very good idea. Can you comment, as there are variant opinions?
