From a very beginner, thank you so much for you great tips and tutorials. Just wondering what the difference is between batting and roving?
@LivingFelt
@LivingFelt 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Catfish! you are welcome and thank you for your nice note :) Batting and Roving are two ways a fiber is processed. Both are processed on a drum carder (be it large or small) and the fibers are blended/mixed such that they are going different directions. A true roving, is really like a "strip" of batting...it comes of the drum carder in narrow strips vs a wide batt. With that said, many of us are guilty of calling "sliver" ... "roving". With a sliver, it may look like roving, but the fibers are more aligned, often all the short fibers have been removed...and the fibers are facing the same direction. We cover this topic a few times a year in our live show...it is a very common question. We really dug into this topic last Spring, but as of now the video only exists in our group...and it got broken into 2 parts. Join our group on fb, and watch it here: facebook.com/MarieMSpaulding/videos/10156293476894173/

Thank you so much for this tutorial, they are so cute and I am having so much fun. I also love Nester (I think that is the name your said). You mentioned he was made last year but I have only just found you and I was wondering if you have a tutorial for him as I love his little face and tree? Thanks again, Chris
@LivingFelt
@LivingFelt 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris, thank you so much for your message and I am so happy to hear you are having fun :) For Nestor ... we do not have a tutorial specifically "for" him because I could not think of a work around for the double acorn cap in time...however, this little tutorial is "most" of him. For the tree ... I made is as a cone on a skewer, which I demonstrate often, but you can see a similar process in our needle felting fantasy owls video...it is more of a tall dome, but same idea. Jump to about the 10min. mark. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g16XhqFnrKhsmMk&index=7&list=PLacvMSjI02xTkt9E3s56QaqQsJU62w1TO For a face on your little guy...I use the same methods for big faces or little faces. We have a series of tutorials for needle felting dolls here...check out the faces video. kzbin.info/aero/PLacvMSjI02xSiOLnxJ4We1Iirk0gt2Ydo I hope that helps and hope you will share your gnome(s) in our facebook group, you will find lots of new friends and LOTS of gnomes from our gnomevember festival too! facebook.com/groups/livingfeltfriends/
