Hey COCO! You definitely want to use a paint sprayer for something like this. It gets in all the cracks and crannies. You can use an acrylic paint in a sprayer, you just have to be sure to have a good place to spray it. This color is Adirondak from DecoArt.

I did this a few years back and it works great for awhile. The staples ended up rusting and the plywood started to mildew. Nice & inexpensive fix though to get a an extra couple of seasons out of our patio furniture.

Try grommets and grommet pliers for the holes and just loop some string in may work for an easy trick if you don’t want to see but for long lasting you might just have to sew then

You can use a sealer if you want to. I do like to use one if it's out in harsh weather.

Separating zippers work best for this but you still could use a regular zipper. Just be careful with the gluing.

Could the same zipper and glue technique be used instead of the plywood? I’m buying new foam for my sofa seat and back cushions and want to be able to take them off to wash them, do you think it would be durable enough for seat cushions?

I would probably just sew them if you're removing them to wash. That said, you can also cover the foam in plastic and then just spray them down IF you use this technique. I live in CA and it's hot. I wash them on my fake lawn and let them dry in the sun for an hour and they're fine.

Can the plywood stapled under the cushions be used outdoors and in the rain? because how will the foam drain with the plywood blocking it, will that make my cushions soggy?

Thanks for the quick reply. I actually got one cushion done but without plywood. To secure my outdoor fabrics to my quick dry foam I used Gorilla hot glue sticks! They are 5x more durable plus waterproof. I did a huge cushion and added outdoor fabric to the bottom as well, hot glued that on too. I got a real good adhesion to the foam. I think your video is awesome and if I were doing an indoor cushion I would save time by using the plywood as you show. it took me a couple or three hours to do one cushion my way, but my cushion is 48"x40" large enough to put on my custom built wood pallet sectional. I have two more large cushions to do! But when I'm done it will look awesome! Thanks!

It was a very difficult decision. I just couldn't decide and finally Julie made me pick the green! We just made it work.
