Swimming caps - I have a larger head than average so they’re too tight and cause headaches and enlargement of the temporal artery. Frankly I think they can be a health hazard because they are often sold as one size fits all but for some people will restrict blood flow too much and heat up the head during exercise.

The fact that I can't seem to work out how my nose works under water. Water gets in every time. Sigh. I'm working on it, but it's tricky.

The thing I dislike about swimming is having too many people in each lane (8-10 People). This makes it difficult to do a quality session. also all my local pools will not allow Fins, Paddles or Snorkles. I have tried to go at different times of the day to avoid the peak times. Also people doing slow Breast stroke in the fast lane, kicking the full width of the lane making it near impossible to get arround them😢 .

I always go swim in the early morning. There are 6 lanes and only 10 peoples who swim. If it’s a full evening, 20 swimmer are in the pool.

@@Hasssprechbeauftragter You are so lucky to have a few people per lane.

That's why you need private club membership. Public pools are always chocker blocked. And it is a lot better if you don't have to go to work. Retired living more flexible for personal opening times😅

I started swimming in January 2023 due to a broken sacrum. No running, no cycling. In a weird way I am so grateful for it. And now I manage to keep a speed of 01:45-01:50min/100m and this year I will compete in my first three Ironman 70.3s. 💪 Also which goggles did you use in the video?

Great video for first time users of the lanes! My swimming instructor is trying to get us swimming on the sides of the lanes and jokingly says you only get to swim on the black line if you are in lessons or the Olympics! The weather is finally stable enough for the outdoor pool by me and I've broken my toes so have to wait a few more weeks to hop in!

Very good video. I am lucky to have access to a small town pool. Lane swimming at night there might be only one or two in the water. When I head to the big city then it is time for the pool etiquette to kick in. Communication is the key. I prefer lots of people because that is how it is going to be in a race. I summer time when the lake has no ice on it, then it is the recreational boats I got to be aware of. Not much etiquette from them at times. Cheers

thanks Mark and team, another great video. I do some times feel like the fast lane is too fast, the middle lane is to varied and i don`t want to annoy people by over taking lots in the slow lane so I might work on getting faster so i can hang with the speedy beings in the fast lane :)

Thanks Alan, you've got fast lane written all over you! It can be tricky when you are stuck between speeds - we're sure with a bit of practice you'll be speedy in no time, we have some great tips in you need them 👉 kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3m0qoWDga2oi80 🏊🏻

Great video thanks. I have heard that in the US you get a lane all to yourself is that correct? Also I have found that in the UK most pools ban the use of snorkel and fins, perhaps we should start a campaign to be allowed to use them :)

Oh my gosh, where was this video 6 months ago when I started swimming!!! Haha. I really could've used something like this. D'oh! Glad it exists now for future newbies.

I have struggled with my weight a lot over the last 30 years. As one of my sisters said, "I have lost the same 5 pounds at least 10 times." The goal of 1 pound per week is a safe loss rate. Some one said that 1 pound equals 3500 calories. If you are going to do it all through calorie reduction, that means 500 calories per day. If you are going to do it through exercise, that means you have to burn an extra 500 calories per day. Both of those are difficult. However, burning an extra 250 per day and reducing 250 per day makes it a lot more manageable.

Weight loss can be super tricky, a balance between calories and exercise is a great starting point. Would you like to see us do a deeper dive in to weight loss?
@robohippy10 ай бұрын
It would make for a good video. I don't need help with losing weight other than being consistent. Well, that and getting over the fact that I can't burn calories like I used to. For sure, it gets more difficult as we age. I am 73 now.

A side note, I have not, nor will I ever attempt a triathlon. I tuned in for the swimming episodes. Mostly I am curious about how others teach, and you never know what you can pick up by watching others. Surprising what little tidbits you can pick up.... I am curious about your viewers, how many actually are triathletes?

In Florida, I think for beginner, it is much better to join a swim club. Great advice for the beginning swimmer though. It can be daunting and some swimmers are not very friendly, patient or sharing in a public pool down here. Too bad people aren't more accommodating - when I do lap swim, I see someone standing and waiting to use a lane, which most people think is their own individual, exclusive lane, I wave them in. More people need to do that - but they will ignore them - leaving the beginner very discouraged in every pool I have been in down here. What really sux about training in pools - lane walkers using up valuable space, hair, bandaids (plasters) and other garbage floating in the water, people that dont shower first, people that just stand in the lane for 10 minutes at a time, locker thieves, etc. Living in Florida, one would think we have many outdoor public 25/50 meter pools. We don't. Lap swimming is a really bad experience here. I usually now just swim with the dolphins, bull sharks and gators in the inner coastal river or the bull sharks and black tip sharks in the ocean 2x a week. As an age group typically 1st placer, it has worked for me, but not recommended for the beginner of course.

Sounds like you've got your system down, great to hear you are looking out for newer swimmers 🙌 like you said swimming can super intimidating - that said a club is a great place to start, you'll learn the unspoken rules and you'll be comfy in the pool before you know it... no sharks in the pool too 😉

I always find you get people who are in the wrong lane who just keep going and you end up with 6 people behind them. Then there is the group that swim a few lengths then stop for a chat hugging the wall so you can’t get to it.
@alfkh10 ай бұрын
I don't think there is a standard on how far the "T" is to the wall. i come from singapore. The T is much closer to the wall from say US or Germany where the T is certainly further away probably bec the average swimmer is taller

What I hate is when other lane users don't know or follow lane rules/manor's.
