Another home run from Brandon! A+++. My approach to getting better in 2021 with a compound is working thru learning how to shoot a recurve. After only 3 weeks in my back tension and follow thru are infinitely better. Shooting trad is a whole new level of exploration and improvement.

I have been doing this to the point that I don’t use the paper tune much anymore at all. I get the bow in spec and head to the 20 yard range with a bare shaft. I have found that a absolute bullet hole through paper at 3-5 yards will still not always fly perfect at distance. It is more of a starting point. I find myself just skipping the paper and going straight to 20 yard bare shaft tune. That is also a very quick way to discover if your spine is to stiff or week for the bows draw length/poundage combination. The end goal is to have the fletchings do as little arrow correction as possible. I have been told before that I take tuning way to far down the rabbit hole. So, there is always that.....

What would an FOC range be that you would suggest. For good pass through. I a. Thinking of doing 125 til weight, 75 outsert. 29 inch 8.8gpi, nock will be about 18.5 then thinking an arrow wrap, 4 fletch thinking low profile. Not really worried about the overall weight just more focused on getting a good FOC.

Can never seem to get a straight answer on..."What if my paper tear is good at six feet, HOWEVER I can clearly see tail left/right downrange at 15+ yards...". Arrow off the bow is good but clearly fishtailing, what to do at that point? Adjusting the rest would mess with the paper tear but also clears up the shot down range. It's me chasing my tail again like the beginning of 2020.

I Don’t know why I suck. Everything on my bow is essentially perfect. On my first day of shooting I got sub 2 inch groups at 20 yards. The next day I was hitting roughly 4 inch groups. It has been about 3 weeks and I have shot almost everyday at 20 yards. My groups are 5-8 inches regularly. I don’t know what I am doing wrong. I’m also thinking about switching from an index trigger release to a thumb release but I would like a second opinion.

Brandon- Thanks for the vids and insight- love it!! Especially the humor. So I rechecked the basics and did a paper tune. Shouldn't 6' and 20 yards be similar or the same? some bullet holes at 6' and then 20 yards 1" off. Some nock left at 6' and nock right at 20 yards. I used GT kinetic and FMJ, all good arrows. I have a Kure and so can use SET, however, any thoughts on why the differences? I have some pics of the paper avail. Oh and also, when you want to tackle UT again...the invite is open ;)

Excellent quick tips on how to not suck at archery 🏹. I definitely need to start as early as possible. I missed three does in the 20-35 yard range (used rangefinder after the fact not during) and didn’t draw on a nice 8 from the ground that was coming at me. I have an old by industry standards PSE Fire Flite 33 from 2006 and I have had it since then. I am a 29 inch draw and shooting 60 lbs (need to start lifting and ramp it up to 65 or 68 lbs) and I changed from an arrow that is 9.3 gpi and aluminum insert to an arrow that is 11.25 gpi with a 45 grain insert. I wanted to try 125-150 grain cut on contact broadheads, but the Cabela’s nearby only has 100s and online stores were empty after the Hunting Public videos with the Ranch Fairy 🧚‍♂️ haha 😆... So I tried 4 blade Magnus Stinger, Sik F4 and G5 Montec CS in 100. I will definitely try paper tuning for the first time this year I like the ladder idea. My bow has a whisker biscuit but I am sure that the tip would be the same. Thank you for sharing

Some people say 21 feet is the best for paper tune before broadhead tuning. Some people say to test at 5 ft, 10 ft, and 10 yards. 6 ft is a good starting point. Shooting bareshafts out to 10 yards is good too. It’ll get you close. Then shoot broadheads and get them hitting with field points at 20+

Nice guide. I have to say that I do something different from paper tuning. I shoot my arrow at my target from around 5 m and look at the way they sit comparing to the target. From my really basic understanding at such a short distance the fletching's will do almost no correction. if the arrow is not perpendicular to the target something is off. Since I had the bow setup by pro shop I hope that they did a good job. In my case my arrows were not perpendicular to the target. And this was bad news. My arrows were brand new so I had to check what was wrong and It as the tip of the arrows I put a 125 grain and they immediately became perpendicular to the target.( 330 spine 29 inch arrow at 28 inch draw around 70 pound draw weight). By the way if you shoot 3D why do you need heavy arrows? You don't need to have a pass trough on a rubber animal.

This video was to establish a base line for folks. I’m getting lots of messages with a really bad paper tears so guys are clearly not set up the right way. I’m going to go through three or four different tuning methods that I like to use to try to get an arrow to do exactly what you’re talking about. My 3-D arrows are right around 400 grains this year. Dont want heavy for that!

Hmm, 34” ATA and you are wearing a Hoyt hat, so could be a RX5 ultra, but maybe you are trying to throw us off the scent and you ordered a Nexus 4 🤘🏼 I’m getting my new Black 1 dialed in. Trying to settle on a rest I like and figure out a quiver option. Maybe even a quiver FROM Option.

@Brandon Mcdonald, Dude. I'm in. I'm about a third grade level archer/bowhunter so I can learn from your 8th grade level. I loved that 85 yd shot you made on that elk in your "Utah solo and New Mexico Archery Elk hunts- Two in the freezer" video. That tells me I can still learn from you. By the way, I promise I was looking at the clothes... not your wife*. I swear. *Ref "High End Hunting Clothes"

How many times do you shoot your arrows? I have 16 arrows that as a set I've probably shot 14,000 times. 100-200 times a day since the summer a little less on cold/super windy days.

Good tips, all! I am a fairly experienced archer, but I do learn a lot from your channel. My only bitch??? You're one of those 'new bow, every year' guys. I bought a (LH) Prime Black 5 back in October, and I'll run her for attending least 3-4 years

Yeah, I think I use the channel as an excuse to tell Jocelyn. I’m actually going to keep the vxr for this year. I want some thing that’s 100% set up with the right arrows for the year so I can always have something ready to go for hunting. I tinker around too much.

I think I'm going to enjoy this new series. By the way if anyone wants or needs more than 8th grade. Here's a 🔥 tip. Last week there was a guy on Wheel of Fortune that had a high level school job AND he claimed that he's in the archery half of fame. This guy named Craig I'm sure u can Google. I won't be doing this since I doubt that he could answer my ?'s about wound channel & edge chatter. If u r starting from scratch u might want to use a bare shaft & turn the nock between shots. Of course after u Google cuz I only had College calculus my senior year of high school.

@@brandonmcdonald6121 Yeah, I use to forward your videos & others to people I know. I'm still trying to find a way to do that. It has something to do with allowing content to be seen my children under the age of 5 or something. There is a way to edit that function on KZbin to defer to adults only to avoid censorship. I'm still working on the forwarding issue. I'm editing a video to send to Ranch Fairy which is all about FOC, Valkyrie, Victory micros, quartering to shots & quick recoveries that doesn't involve hours, just seconds. I shot a mature deer that was close & if I didn't take the shot that very moment it would have been gone in 2 seconds. More than 1 camera angle with lots of cover & recovery video to boot. ➕ I'm shooting a Nexus 34 next week not because I want it, which I do. But because I need it😆

I have had pro shops set a rest up 1/8 off.. My hunting partner and I have the same exact bow.. his d loop was installed 3/16 to 1/4 differnt then mine..and I have seen string and cables changed and not once did they check cam timing or cam lean..So even alot of pro shops will rush a job..so I would say atleast get the basic knowledge of what should be done so you can atleast go through a check list if your not going to be doing everything on your own
