How about this: Lord Brinne, owner of the Mentor's ring, was an actual person, William Iburg, who sadly passed away in 1999. He frequented a lot of RPG forums, and you can find tributes to him in Might and Magic 8, Ultima IX and Deus Ex. His actual tombstone also has "Lord Brinne" written above his name.

You really don't need to steal so much stuff from the census office. You should also keep the alcohols, Sujamma in particular is really good to use. You should also return Fargoth's ring before selling stuff, as he gives a huge boost to Arille's disposition, which means they'll give you more money for selling stuff there. There's also an enchanted axe in a stump nearby that you can use or sell. Also remember that how much fatigue you have effects barter prices for some reason, so you want full fatigue before trading. You also give way too little credit to the other star signs. The steed can give you a large speed boost, the Ritual is good against the undead and gives a healing spell, the Lover gives an Agility boost (increasing weapon accuracy) and gives a paralyze power, the Shadow gives you an invisibility power, and my personal favorite the Tower gives the Tower Key power which opens locks up to 50 points, removing the need to learn Security at all, and also gives the spell Beggar's Nose, which detects Animals/Keys/Enchantments, which is amazing once you learn how to apply it. The Lady is good too, though.
@Camelworks
@Camelworks 2 жыл бұрын
I always forget that detail because I never play them 😂
@ShardtheWolf
@ShardtheWolf 2 жыл бұрын
@@xenofes2 On the topic of the star sign: Those are all bonuses you can either level up later, or spellcraft later. The biggest reason for the lady is that the hp/level up is non-retroactive. The extra 25 endurance from the lady means 2.5 extra hp/level. Getting that 25 endurance via leveling (and getting +5 level up each time) means 5 levels of catch up. Thats (2.5 + 2.0 + 1.5 + 1.0 + .5) = 7.5 hp your character has permanently lost. And thats the absolute best case... I know, 7.5 hp isnt much, but its the only non-mana sign that has something you can't just aquire later. If you're willing to delay a build by a few levels, and you're not taking atronach/apprentice/mage, or speedrunning and taking the steed, taking the lady is the best option.
@xenofes2
@xenofes2 2 жыл бұрын
@@ShardtheWolf By that logic, you should also only play as an orc, redguard, or male nord, and should always pick Endurance as a favored attribute, and always get it to max at level 4, otherwise you're missing out on Endurance and therefore missing HP. This is obviously an unnecessary amount of minmaxing, but that's what you sound like to me. HP is something that can be restored easily and fortified with spells if necessary, so you really don't need to minmax it at all. Plus Morrowind doesn't have a hard level cap, so if you need more max health, you can just level up again. The spells and powers granted by the other signs can't all be replaced. If you recreated Beggar's Nose it would cost 1,650 magicka to cast and at 100 in every stat/skill, it would still have a -1,775% chance of casting successfully, effectively making it impossible to cast without exploits. Even if you made individual spells to cover Beggar's Nose's three effects, they each still have negative cast rates at 100 stats. (-275%, -463%, and -463%) Most spells/powers granted by signs aren't that hard to cast spell versions of, but their appeal isn't that they're something you can't usually do, it's that they're cheap, reliable, and freely available from the start, with utility that outweighs the stat boosts. Being able to paralyze somebody or to turn invisible for 60 seconds without having Illusion as a high skill is amazing. Being able to open the majority of locks in the game without any Security or Alteration is amazing. Having a bit of extra health is never going to outweigh those options.

Someone else already mentioned giving Fargoth his ring back in order to get better dispo with the trader, but when you are at the trader you can actually go upstairs and talk to an NPC to get a quest. That quest will have you observe Fargoth at night from the lighthouse and when you find his hidden gold stash, you can get the ring back. THAT is the quest you don't wanna turn in cus you only get half the gold back. The other quest with the tax collector actually rewards you with 3x as much gold if you turn in the gold you found on his body. Cus you get a quest to find out who killed the tax collector. And it's not hard to solve, either. You ask around town a bit and are directed back at the lighthouse. From the woman inside, you get further directions until you eventually confront the killer. You get a choice to either turn a blind eye or kill him. If you kill him, you get your 600 gold reward.

Don't spam attack. You have to hold it a bit to do more damage. The damage ranges you see in the menu are based on how long you hold it. If you spam click you do the lowest number, if you hold it a second you do the higher number. That usually saves on stamina also and helps you be more accurate

If you want a REALLY GOOD start, skip all of this and immediately go to the Redoran Cantana in Vivic. In the manor in the main district, there is a room with a Vault key on it. Steal it and run out. You can now raid the House Redoran vaults with immunity. All you need to do is make sure the guard in the bottom Vault walks out and then close the cage behind him. Cage doors count as visual barriers so no guards will see you loot the entire Vault for the Ebony/Glass/Dwarven armor, the gems and all the gold.

8:06 - The Lady Birthsign in OpenMW does not increase your *base* attributes like it did in vanilla. So it will say you have 85 endurance but only your base endurance (which would be 60) is taken into consideration when leveling up. It's like wearing an item that increases endurance. It will only increase fatigue but won't count towards max health on level up. Thankfully there is a mod that restores the vanilla behavior. The change was made because the Lady birthsign became obselete once you hit 100 endurance and personality but personally I think it was a stupid change.
@jemolk8945
@jemolk8945 2 жыл бұрын
I believe the current default behavior is that they increase base attributes, actually, though it would be good to check before relying on my word here. The "change" was simply that magic effects of the "ability" classification behaved like any other magic effects. OpenMW had not duplicated what some people regarded as the buggy behavior of a specific type of buff. Personally, I think it a vast improvement, because it means that you don't always pick the Lady 100% of the time, and also it allows ability effects to be used elsewhere without screwing up base stats.

Pick up the mushrooms for the balmora quest back in Seyda or on the way to the shipwreck and back, before you go to Balmora (assuming you have the carrying capacity). If you don't, always carry a Sujamma or three. Nothing worse than looting a fallen foe and not being able to move, while his mates are angry with you. The DB armour is light, wear it so you can carry more. It's less good for enchanting later on, but the helmet can take a useful night-eye effect. Never nick soul gems from an enchanter you may later want to enchant something for you. Always keep a ranged weapon for the (bless saint jiub's soul) cliff racers and netch. Use the Silver Sword, instead of the sparky lump of iron - enchanted *or* Silver and above are effective on the undead.

Also a good sell to certain creature merchants. Ranged or Spear. I like Spear as it gives you range but also works in close combat, plus you don't run out of ammo. Also, Spear's governing attribute is endurance and raising that one is super important so you want the bonus. (Raising misc. skills works for bonus-point count during level up as well. Just not to when you level up. You want to raise 10 points per attribute to raise, but 10 points on major/minor skills already is leveling you up. If you have the money, use trainers).

The only problem with the Xbox version I've found is the lack of a console to sort out when quests bug out. In my first playthrough I picked up a dwemer coherer before Cauis Cossades gives you one for the cure corpus quest. If you talk to Divath Fyr with it in your inventory he'll automatically take it from your inventory even if you haven't started the quest and it'll softlock the entire main story.

I know you just watched this video and just got a ton of tips from here, but the advice I give everyone is to pick one thing to master early. Be a warrior, be a mage, be an archer, whatever. The combat will feel faaaaar less clunky once you stop missing or failing casts. You don't have to stay specialized, you can branch out later once you have a solid footing. But in the early game a well rounded character is just a nice way of describing a character that sucks at everything.

Great Ideas! I've played Morrowind literally dozens of times since it first came out, and a few of these I still never knew about. I'd never thought of grabbing the Mentor's ring this early, but it's a great idea. I've found that the biggest items that simplify gameplay are the Fists of Randagulf, and the Boots of Blinding Speed, so I prioritize those. By playing as a Breton, you can start with a 50% resist magicka, which means you can resist the blind effect from the boots. You can also craft a spell early (50% resist magicka for 1sec on self) and then equip the boots and permanently negate the effect. Literally the whole game goes faster, and consequently smoother after this. So, my plan is generally start with a couple of these free things detailed here, fast travel to Balmora, sign up for the mages guild and teleport to Caldera. Run from there to Pemenie and do her escort mission to Gnaar Mok for the boots. With the boots on, I beeline straight for Ilunibi, which is just north of Gnaar Mok. The fists are all the way at the bottom of the dungeon in the boss room, but the boss won't be there yet. With the boots, you can just outrun all the enemies in the dungeon, grab the fists and any other loot, and get out. There's a bunch of other good loot there as well, including a 6th House Bell Hammer (the second strongest unenchanted blunt weapon in the game), as well as a pair of glass boots for selling. With the gloves on, the Agility boost means you can finally hit things pretty easily, and the strength boost is just generally useful for carrying more and hitting harder. Once I've got the agility from the gloves and the speed from the boots, all of the early quests and dungeons go pretty smoothly, so we an do whatever we want. One thing I do almost right away though is get back to the mages guild to craft that resist Magicka spell, and also a spell of levitation. The normal levitate spell costs a ton of magic, but you can craft a 1pt levitate spell that lasts over 10 seconds for minimal magicka that's easy to cast even by non-mages. The speed at which you levitate is determined by both the magnitude of the spell and your existing character speed, so a 1pt spell while using the Boots of Blinding Speed basically means you can conveniently fly anywhere you need to, quickly. This opens up wizard towers, makes it easy to cross over the mountain ranges to places like the Urshilaku Camp or cross the seas to places like Tel Fyr, hop over the ghostfence, fly between the vivec buildings without running up and down ramps, and perhaps most importantly it enables access to unreachable places in some dungeons. For archer builds, this is critical to grabbing an early Daedric Long Bow from Maelkashishi. So, top-tier gear available extremely early if done in the right order: Boots of Blinding Speed - requires some resist magicka Fists of Randagulf - much easier to get at level 1 if you have the Boots of Blinding Speed 6th House Bell Hammer - in the room with the fists of Randagulf Now, pick your top-tier armor: Lord's Mail - accessible immediately if you can smack down a lvl 15 imperial, which you can do with the above gear. Bonus, he's got a demon Katana. Also, the lord's mail counts as legion armor, so you can wear it for the legion quests (except the final one) Dragonbone Curaiss - Accessible immediately if you can defeat a Steam Centurion, which you can do with the above gear. From here, I start thinking about end-game-quality weapons. Run the chest puzzle in Tel Fyr for the Daedric Crescent? Take out a couple rogue wizards for Chrysamere and the Masque of Clavicus Vile? There's not much you can't do at this point if you've got the boots, fists, armor and a decent weapon. The only thing you really don't want to do yet is jump deep into Tribunal, but the whole base game is ready to play in any order.

Just for everyone's awareness, there's an easier/quicker way to steal the items at the beginning than one by one picking them up, and rushing to the inventory to drop them. If you open your inventory while near and looking at whatever item/items you're trying to steal, you can hover over the item with your mouse in the inventory screen, click on it and it'll be picked up the same as actually picking it up like normal, except you're already in your inventory. The guard will still react, but since you're still in your inventory, he can't actually do anything before you drop the item/items. You can do this with however many items you can see without having to close your inventory until you want to move to another spot for more items. So long as all the items you picked up are on the ground before you talk to the guard, it doesn't matter how many you grab in one go.

Plus the murderer has an exquisite level ring, which is great for enchanting. Of course, the pro move is to solve the murder case without talking to the guy in the Excise office. I highly recommend the mod that delays dark brotherhood assassins to level 12-15 (can't exactly remember which) for an easier time early on. Also, small correction about the attributes you select in character creation. The attributes from your race are raised 10% faster I think. Major attributes are increased 20% faster and Minor attributes 10% faster. Attributes outside any of those 3 groups are 20% slower to rise. Something to take into account is that the different factions in morrowind don't like each other. Usually the Morrowind factions won't like the Imperial factions and you will have similar factions on both sides. Redoran and the fighters guil, Telvanni and the mages guild, Morag Tong and dark brotherhood and Camora Tong(?) and the thieves guild. Also bear in mind that some rivalry exists between them. Like the Telvanni that simply don't like anybody. I recommend checking the wiki for faction relations if you are interested. Also important to mention that for lockpicking there are actually two choices, you either go security for lockpicks or alteration for the open lock spells. Seeing how alteration also have some cool powerful spells, if you aren't sticking to the phisical melee build and will be having some magic thrown into the mix, alteration might serve you better. I actually recommend the dark elf race, as that fire resistance is going to be very useful against early casters, and has a variety of skills, appart from being more thematic. Going for a spellblade with medium or even light armour can give you more speed to travel the lands and a good repertoire of options to deal with encounters.

Camel, my suggestion is: If you make a part 2, can you include perhaps some addendums adjusting to not exploit game mechanics? *EVERYONE* always makes these 'how to' guides for Morrowind, and they ALWAYS include exploits for the game. It'd just be nice to see guides where that wasn't step 1 for once. By 'exploit' I do mean obvious stuff like god-tier alchemy potions, stealing the limeware platter (or anything else really), abusing the quest system for extra rewards (especially early on), and so on. Just...do stuff without ruining the flow of the game. There's still plenty of legit ways you can get going in the game, still not 'suck' but also not abuse the game mechanics. Mind I don't consider the items that cause a tutorial prompt to be 'exploits', because the game expects you to do that. Ergo taking the iron dagger, the lockpick, and such like that, is all fine. Same with Fargoth's ring. Things you can do, and I do not consider exploits at all, in Seyda Neen and Balmora, include: Fargoth's Ring: Make Fargoth happy and get better trades at Arille's. Fargoth's Stash: Find Fargoth's stash, get 100 gold, his ring back, and one other random item (usually a lockpick) Death of a Taxman: Doing it legit will net you 500 gold at the end along with either an exquisite level ring or 2 standard healing potions for your trouble. (Yes you can exploit it to get 700 gold, the ring, and the 2 potions though, but again, trying to avoid exploits here) Optionally: Help out Vodunius Nuccius Optionally: Go see Tarhiel and take his stuff. Optionally: Sell your starting shirt and shoes, but not your pants. NPCs only bitch about 'nudity' when you aren't wearing pants. So if you literally sell the 'shirt off your back' it means that your precious early game carrying capacity is just that ever so slightly less impacted, and you get another gold coin for your troubles. Then in Balmora you can: Join Tribunal Temple, Thieves Guild, Mages Guild, and Fighters Guild. Take the free items (I don't consider that an exploit, the game allows it, and the chests even refill eventually) in the chests in the Fighters and Mages Guild. Do the first couple of missions for all of the aforementioned guilds, in particular the first brief quest chain in the Mages Guild nets a lot of solid potions to either use or sell in the early game and requires zero combat if you play a bit smarter. Join the Blades before level 5, Caius will give you 200 free gold and let you use his bed to heal (so no wasting money on an inn room) Once you do, go to every single Blades Trainer that Caius can tell you about, most of all, the three of them found in Balmora itself will give you some free items. Optionally: Join House Hlaalu if you choose to make them your Great House pick. That will make a lot of the people in Balmora treat you better outright, especially merchants. Otherwise, save yourself for the Telvanni or Redoran if you want them instead. All of these things together, doing it 100% legit, will still net you a couple thousand gold early on without a single exploit. Is it 'as' good as exploiting the game? No not at all, but it'd just be nice to see some change of pace is all.

I agree with your outlook here. And to answer your final question: yes, it is better because it makes you more immersed in the game world rather than just doing a gamey exploit heavy min max speed run, which is very unimmersive. Morrowind has some of the best potential for immersion in an rpg world, and the method you detail here is the way to begin to experience it.

@@David_Alvarez77 Ikr? I'm not saying I'm innocent, I've exploited the game plenty. But you do that enough times, and eventually it gets boring. The game loses all challenge when you do it over and over again. Heck I've created whole sets of challenge rules for myself before. For example one set of rules I like I call the 'Path of the Mage'. I can't join any factions but the Telvanni and Mages Guild. By extension, I can only use services members of those factions can provide otherwise, or are otherwise located in areas controlled by them. I also must use a magic-focused build and a magic-focused birthsign. It really changes up the gameplay and forces you to adapt. It's fun because you are locked out of many exploits and the like, but on the same note, you can at least use what you allow yourself, in this case, magic-related stuff, without fuss.

@@TheNN That sounds interesting. I try to only belong to factions that mesh together in some way, and generally try to role play the character and avoid too much meta gaming. Maybe challenge rules like you mentioned would be fun.

@@David_Alvarez77 I've come up with some pretty wild challenges before. One of the hardest being what I called the "Champion of Azura" Essentially, once you leave/do what you can in the Seyda Neen area, that's it. You cannot join any guilds (except the Blades), enter towns, use fast travel, none of it, unless it's for a quest specifically. You can use services that are outside of towns, and you can otherwise do anything you want in the vast emptiness of Vvardenfell. The only things you have to do is the main quest, and beat Azura's quest then soul trap Vivec at some point with Azura's Star.

If ES VI released, and it was all a prank, because -- instead of making a new game -- they'd simply recreated an updated version of Morrowind, I would be the opposite of disappointed. Elated? I'd be elated. I'd buy it, and send a consolation donation to the Skywind team for good measure. I'd have a second birthday that year.

@@erosplox7166 Try starting off with a character using conjuration and short blade and summon a dagger. The mage will hit hard but you'll have a high hit chance and decent damage. Alternatively, you can start off with another weapon skill and immediately go to the mage's guild in Balmora. There is a npc that teaches spells that allow you to summon any weapon type. Daggers, spears, axes, longswords... slightly expensive but worth it because they have no weight, deal decent damage, and boost your hitchance.

The Fargoth quest is a gamechanger. It brings you a lot more money at the trader when his disposition is maxed. Also helpful but very tedious is selling stuff one by one because the minimum price is always 1 gold ( one arrow one gold, 500 arrows, 300 gold). It also levels up your mercantile significantly faster
