I remember really hating pull ups in the beginning and I think a big reason for that was for not having full body tension. When you lock your body like that it makes you feel a lot more springy and its a lot easier to do more reps I think.
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын

I prefer the " perfect pullup" variation where you arch your back and try to get chest to bar. Franco Columbu did these too.
@vinuzo95483 жыл бұрын
Arch back pull ups really destroy the lats, but you can do much less reps. Once you get close to failure, your core will engage and your back will start to round. Also with the hollow body, the pull up is more of a compound, strength movement so there's benefits to both.

Awesome! Thank you! And yeah, oil really isn't friendly in our diet. It's pure fat (no protein, no carbs) and only trace amounts of micronutrients. It sure is tasty, but it's a lot of empty calories. I'm glad you're open minded enough to try reducing it in your diet. You won't regret it!

Ryan, great videos. I've just started calisthenics and have heard you mention adding cardio to your routine. A video on how to add it to your workout plan would be helpful. Should I do cardio before or after a workout, or on rest days? Where would I get the most bang for my buck? I know I'm not 18 anymore, but I seem to become winded and tired quicker than I feel I should. Would cardio help that? Would it slow muscle gains? I feel it would be a great addition to your library. Thanks for all the great videos and keep up the good work!
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
Duke Leyman thanks for the awesome video idea :) Stay tuned. I'll make that one soon. (Short answer: best to do cardio AFTER your resistance training. Let the glycogen stores in your muscles help you squeeze out those extra couple reps. Then, at the end of resistance training when your glycogen stores are depleted, hit the jump rope or whatever you like doing to burn body fat).

Hi Ryan, Great video! What if your bar is a doorway bar AND because of where it's located you cannot extend your legs fully to an L position? I have to have my legs tucked behind me in an L and i extend them down as I get closer to the bar. thanks
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
Jake Hayes hmmm 🤔. yeah, if it's a low bar, plus you can't extend your legs in front of you, then I guess the next best option is to tuck them behind you (knee flexion). Is it possible to do slight hip flexion with your legs straight to keep your feet off the floor? For example, when I'm on my doorway pull up bar, I can do a "half L-sit" where my legs are straight out in front of me but at about 45 degrees angled downward. This prevents my feet from touching the floor and allows me to have my legs straight the whole time. But you might be taller than me so it might not work for you on your bar/situation. Anyway, yes - I'd agree that if you can't L-hang and your bar is too low, then knee flexion to tuck your legs behind you is the next best option.
@jakehayes13454 жыл бұрын
@@MinusTheGym Thanks Ryan! great idea.... I'm going to try that... I just started trying a forward tuck... bringing my knees up in front as high as I can and holding them in the tuck.. It's really hard! I can only do a couple right now.... so it's a good challenge.

Should I go to the dead hang while doing pullups?
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
А р ш а н This is difficult for me to answer because it can go either way My suggestion is: if you're going for high reps and working on endurance, then no, I don't recommend going down into a dead hang on every rep. Keep the active hang as your bottom position. However, if you're working with a strength focus doing slow reps and full ROM then, yes, going down into a dead hang on every rep is fine.
@user-mg2vp1cb7z4 жыл бұрын
@@MinusTheGym I'm currently working on explosive pullups for muscle ups. I should not go to dead hang right ? Btw thanks for the response.

I live in india. I like your videos very much . sir l have a question for you . I have been trying to handstand for a long time . how long will it take to make a perfect handstand
@MinusTheGym4 жыл бұрын
nikhil sharma. Thanks, glad you like my videos :) It varies from person to person depending on their starting point of athleticism and how frequently they train the handstand. I'm not sure how long you've been training the handstand, but for me personally it took a good 8 months or so of consistent training (5 days per week or so) until I finally had a steady consistent handstand. And even then, I needed to spend a little time on straightening it out more. If you are plateauing in your handstand progress, my suggestion would be to look closely at (1) your mobility - can you open your shoulders with elevated scapulae while maintaining a posterior pelvic tilt? If not, then stretch! Then (2) look at your progressions - are you taking the necessary steps to progress towards the full handstand or are you trying to shortcut by jumping straight to kick-ups? Skipping progressions is never a good idea; always ends up in halted progress. And (3) look at your training frequency. Handstand is more a mobility-dominant skill than strength-dominant, so you can practice it up to 7 days a week if you really want. It's like learning piano or guitar. The more you practice, the better.
