Great video. I watched the entire video. One of these days I'll invest in a PV14 or some other NVG. I'll also get training.

Excellent video. Its difficult to explain to people getting into nods what to look for and considerations without going into a 2 hour rant. This is a really good jumping off point to send to people.

Just a couple of notes about the dbal d2, only the FDE is discontinued the black is still available. The dbal d2 illuminator is LED based, so the beam cannot be narrowed down as tightly as the laser based illuminators, but the trade off is the illuminator power isn’t restricted.

Im a big fan of mod button switches. Of all the switches I’ve used I like them the best because you actually have to press them a little harder then you think in order to activate them. Makes it extremely hard to ND your WL or Laser. Not impossible, but I’ve never had a wight light ND since I’ve been using them. There’s another company called HRF Concepts that makes different housings for the mod buttons, you can actually make it so it pitches the button at a 45 or 30 degree angle among other options. Makes for some really sweet setups and allows you to easily differentiate between your white light and laser all while running 2 switches.

One thing I like about the hydra mount that no one really touches on is eliminating MOA shift. With the optic mounted on the receiver, you're less likely to have the zero shifted if it's dropped. So you can run a lighter rail without fear of losing your zero if it's gets bent a bit.
@oriontraininggroupllc2782Ай бұрын
Counterpoint would be that they made that mount out of a soft aluminum choice, and individual testing has shown that if you drop it the mount bends worse than any rail.

Late to the party,, what are your thoughts on vis-only lasers for LEO who don’t use NVGs. Marking, communicating and teaching?
@DAMBIGlsu2 ай бұрын
I would imagine you would use vis more often than IR in LEO. I'm probably wrong but the possibilities are there.

Yeah it’s almost must IMO, especially for gas heavy teams.

Why is looking through your night vision through the gun optic called passive aiming/shooting?
@oriontraininggroupllc27822 ай бұрын
You’re “passively” aiming by looking thru the optic (no one else can see your dot) vs actively putting out a laser into the environment to aim and everyone can see your laser. Thats how it’s been explained to me, and I’m not sure of a better explanation for that specific terminology. At least I haven’t found one.

What I would like to find out is (I apologise that it's off topic) if there is an optimal barrel length in relation to your overall height? Jared, I'm guessing you're 5'11"? So a 10.5" is optimal for you to manipulate your rifles accessories like your laser and weapon light. What is optimal for a person that's 5'6"? or 6'2"?
@oriontraininggroupllc27822 ай бұрын
I am 6’ 1”. Barrel length is totally unrelated to a person’s height.

@oriontraininggroupllc2782 Thank you for the reply brother. I hope I didn't offend you with guessing your height incorrectly, taller people are usually not as big as you. Solid video as always. There's always a lot to learn.

I disagree, you need a NV setting. I had that Lead and Steel optic and had to get rid of it because the lowest setting would halo out my PVS14. You could see it in daylight even at the lowest brightness which was insane. Passive aiming was literally impossible. So NV settings are highly recommended IMO.
