Great video! i have one question, any response would be much appreciated. Does the oil get filtered directly out of the chassis before entering the crankcase?

I intend to remake some of my older videos (this one included) as this wasn't my best production quality XD.... But I'm, very happy to see it helped you out! As always you're welcome, and you need to let me know if you have a video you want me to make as I'd be more than happy to do so if it sounds solid :)

Be careful when loosening the front oil line. It’s best to use 2 17mm wrenches, one on the screen plug and one on the oil hose fitting turning. Mine was also stuck on and it broke the metal part of the line… which is a $100+ dollar part. Joy.

What about oil temperature? I think you should let bike work on idle for 3-4 minutes to make oil more hot
@one_terrabike31514 жыл бұрын
You're right! :) Typically, I'd say ride it until it's at operating temperature (200°F on mine) and then let it sit for ~5-10 minutes....that way the oil would come out faster

Hey man hate to be that guy but you should really use latex gloves. Been a mechanic 38 years and last year was diagnosed with Leukemia CML. Dr believes it was caused by skin exposed to chemicals such as used oil and brake cleaners. They are not lying about used oil can cause cancer. I will have it the rest of my life but with the help of modern medicine I can live as long as the average person. My Leukemia is in remission now but I am a lot more cautious when handling cancer causing chemicals. Safety first we only have one life…

Awesome video! Which temp gauge do you have in the dipstick hole?
@one_terrabike31514 жыл бұрын
XR's Only, but get a Hemisphere Offroad one (they are a better company and the dipstick wont fog over time)

quick observtion. You forgot to add some oil into the filter before inserting it back

The manual doesn't call for it, so I didn't include that. However, you're more than welcome to do so as it won't hurt anything! Thanks for watching!

What about torque specs on all plugs and bolts? What about the second oil screen behind the clutch cover?
@one_terrabike31514 жыл бұрын
I should've included the torque specs 😣... Also, there's an oil pump behind the clutch cover but no additional screen that I'm aware of that's done on a normal maintenance schedule.

2l Oil?
@speedolover17933 жыл бұрын
Better have more than 2 quarts Clymer manual said 2.06qts for filter and oil change on my 18 xr650 it took 2.75qts
@one_terrabike31513 жыл бұрын
You'd be correct. However the .06 is largely insignificant which is why 2 was fine here. When you fill up to 2 quarts it will *not* show the correct oil level until you follow the procedure of fully warming up the bike and then checking as the manual recommends. You'll quickly notice the 2 quarts is somewhere between the high and low mark whereas anything more than 2 often times shows it's overfilled. And an overfilled engine is definitely not better than one that has an oil level in between the ranges. Yes, every bike is different and yours might hold more, but I'd advise you to make sure you're not overfilling your oil as that will prematurely kill your motor

@@one_terrabike3151 yeah I read on a blog somebody else said that they added nearly 2.75

@PhilosoraptorXJ2 жыл бұрын
2.75 is too much, just in case someone reads this later. The oil should be checked hot, approximately five minutes or so after shut down. I check mine at every fuel up, because it’s just convenient to do. Pull the dipstick, wipe it off, and keep the bike upright. Place the dipstick back, do not thread it, and pull it out. Should read near the top of the gauge if you added 2 quarts. That being said, on these dry sump bikes, I’m not entirely sure if they’re as susceptible to damage from overfilling.
