I thought your supposed to start the engine after the first quart? Then add the second quart?

The manual calls to align tdc on the crankshaft before removing. Does it matter in your experience?

This is a bit old so idk if i'll get an answer for that, but when i tighten the right axle nut the chain spacer often will spin out of its groove, and its a real pain in the ass. I had it all straightened up but after a wood ride i gotta do it all again, any tips for that ?
@chucksterrr3 ай бұрын
Hi! You forgot one crucial step. After tightening the axle, before tightening the 4 pinch bolts, you should let the bike sit on the wheel, and with the brake on, compress the suspension a few times, to get the fork tubes aligned where they want to sit on the axle, this way preventing adverse handling, or binding. Thank you.

You should never drill the slide or weaken the spring, you are defeating the idea of a cv carb

Just recently bought my XR650 with this mod done to it. Battery is woefully undersized ( 14 A/Hr vs 19 and 210 CCA vs 285 CCA for a Shorei in stock configuration). Doing this mod is overworking the battery since it doesn’t have much capacity and shortening its life. These Shorei batteries aren’t cheap so stressing it is not a good idea. Second point is now you have a rats nest of wiring on top of the air box. Honda puts a lot of thought into their bikes and the stock location enables easy access to the battery, fuses, and CDI in case of emergencies. When and if your bike craps out, if you do this mod you have to remove the two bolts to remove the seat. Not something you want to do off-road riding to replace the CDI with your spare (a known issue with the CDI). So now you have an underpowered battery, fuses, and CDI exposed to moisture all in a location not easily accessible. This is IMHO a VERY BAD idea if you consider the negatives of doing a mod just for looks. I’m in the process of putting my bike back to the way it’s supposed to be.

A hack I've found is to stuck a wrench or fat screwdriver between the frame and intake tube and itll just hold the fat f*cker in place.

Question... I just got my '23 XR650L and plan on doing a Yoshi RS-2 slip on and de-smogging... I live at about 4750ft above sea level..... Would you recommend de-snorkel and 158 main for this? should I start a bit leaner on the main? What do you think? And, is there a handy chart on what others have done? or a 'basic jet guide' similar to what JD Jet Kits puts in their DR-Z400 kit??
@one_terrabike31517 ай бұрын
Consider buying 52 & 155 jets and the standard Dave's Mod 55 & 158 jets. It's always a bit of experimenting. If 55 requires no choke use the 52. And if you have black smoke or a super black colored spark plug tip on using the 158, use the 155. Hope this helps!
