WARNING: The ribbon cable shown at 6:07 has a release mechanism that's not mentioned. In my case it's possible the locking mechanism wasn't fully engaged which allowed me to easily release the cable by pulling it. That is not recommended. To release the cable correctly use a tweezer or small screwdriver to push down on the metal plate that sits over the connector. While pushing down on the plate you should be able to release the ribbon cable with relative ease.

Unfortunately did just damage the port for this ribbon cable on my Xbox after just trying to wiggle the cable out. Should’ve known better with how “stubborn” it seemed to be in there. Just a warning to others if they’re able to catch this comment before following the video directly really wish I had. Can’t use eject button or power button and the led on the power button doesn’t work as well now :/ console does still power on using a controller and you can eject disc on the Home Screen by pressing X. After 3 years since this video was uploaded I think it is fair to say there should be an updated guide and this one deleted to prevent anyone else potentially making the same mistake. Especially since many have already commented about breaking it themselves

Lol I recently tried to clean my old 360 elite that I received back after all these years & I can honestly say it’s the worst one of the bunch. The 360e isn’t as difficult, unfortunately all 360s had terrible shells but the elite is like trying to open a glass egg. All Xbox ones are easily do-able w/ a solid guide & proper tools but this one looks better than the rest. The OG xbox had very few components inside & wasn’t difficult, just note that you need to know your motherboard model if you’re replacing parts, a GFCI & proper testers. Also remember to remove the time capacitor on the OG Xbox before it bricks your console.

took my series x to somewhere for the weekend, came home and the second i took it out i realized there was, no sugarcoating it, a bunch of roaches just living in it now we disassembled it, used compressed air to sling some out and smashed them, now we're letting the parts sit in airtight bags overnight to suffocate them. i appreciate it, thank you

The small white ribbon cable has a push lock. Do not just pull

I would like to add a comment on the removal of the very first ribbon cable, the one for the eject and power button, on my model xbox you need to push on the metal a bit to release the cable, DO NOT just jank on it, it will BREAK. once you find the spot to push on the cable will come out very very easily. His model might be different then mine so if your having a tough time at that part try to push the metal in.

If you look closely on the connector or pictures of the nexus connector, it says "push" you must push this tab then pull the ribbon cable out. There are atleast 5 comments below where the connector was yeeted off. Other disassembly videos cover the connector tab.

Yes ,you have to gently push the top of the metal bit in for the eject button cable to come out , otherwise if you just pull it,you risk damaging the cable,as it just doesn't pull out

Thank you, I was really struggling with the wire to the fan but I was able to get it out and clean most of my xbox, but I wasn't trying to disassemble my xbox like a transformer so yeah. Although I managed to break off a pieace of the back covering that clips into the xbox and that fell right in the machine but I got it out so kudos 👏

Only place on the internet that said "pull the ribbon cable up, it's going to be stuff" (at 15:00 ) ... a hard yank and finally had it out. Clips were broken on both sides, probably from the heat and them becoming brittle. They don't even seem to do anything. Thanks for the info!

You could buy a ribbon extender for the NVme and install a Better hard drive and leave in the the bottom of the case. Plenty of empty space.

I've just opened my xbox to give it a deep clean as the dust was shocking. I have however been a bit too rough with the ribbon cable that leads to the power button and eject button. All is not lost as I can turn it on and eject with the controller but I was just wondering if you know how I could fix this and whether or not it would be a hard job?

Your clear video has encouraged me to give it a go and try and fix a 2 year old Xbox Series X that never really worked, but got gradually worse for about a year, crashing more and more frequently, especially when using heavier games (causing heat), before packing up completely about a year ago. I'm assuming that the fault will be on that 2nd motherboard, with all GPU's and CPU's on it - has anyone ever had the same issue to confirm. I live in Vietnam where there are zero Xbox repair facilities, so even when new it was impossible to return it (in case you were wondering).

Thanks for the help! After a year of never bothering to dust around my Series X I thought it would be bad inside, but it's absolutely fine. Before opening I used a non static air blower up the intake vents at the back, and that blew out a tiny cloud of dust. That was probably all it needed in reality.

can u try to connect that ssd to pc and try accessing the files on that drive, of course if its not encrypted then only u can access it. Please try and let us know. "if u can't directly access the ssd partition, trying using a professional partition software to browse through the ssd"

Great work, good walk thru. But the link ribbon for the two boards you shouldn’t try to separate the clips at the end they should be squeezed for the ribbon to come out easily, and the usb board ribbon doesn’t have to come out the housing when removing the core of the console. But as I say, it’s marvelous instructional video content.

I heard if it gets loud you just open it up and make sure you push in the fan connector snugly. is there a way to with a flashlight and a long screwdriver push in/ resecure through the top fan vent the fan connector?

6:03 This one did not come out easily. The pull tab immediately broke off. The clmap on the connector isn't obvious, and now I am turning back and reassembling my console hoping it still works.

@@chlojo2816 Yeah, I had to buy 2 new cable end connectors from a guy in Arizona and use a microscope to solder one onto the board, was very difficult. First one failed, tried again and it worked. 0/10, would not recommend
