I ordered one of these boxes from Chris. It looks great on my house and it was easy to configure my lightning arrestors. Room for expansion. This box is well made and high quality. Chris is easy to work with and the man knows his stuff. Made by a ham, for a ham.

Just a tip if it's not already been said... M32 size cable glands will allow a cable size range of 9mm to 21mm. Just right to pass a PL259 through and then tighten down on LMR400 or 600 size coax.

9M6DC- I have my antenna motor 60 ft up on the air, lead down to my shake with an electric .cable with 6 strains of small wires for the current supply to the motor. How should I protect this from lightning?

I'm moving into a new QTH and will soon be running ground wires and feedlines in and out of the house. Would one of these be able to mount to vinyl siding without big gaps?

A flat backed box wont seal against siding and that isn't important anyways. The only thing that has to seal is the conduit pipe that comes out of the wall through the siding and into the box.

Just a quick question is the strap try wire better than the earth wire itself

Can I run the entry panel ground through the house to the electrical box ground?? Or does the ground wire have to stay outside?
@KF7P
@KF7P 2 жыл бұрын
Run a ground wire directly down to a ground rod below the box. This should be short and as straight as possible. This ground rod should be bonded to the utility ground rod.

@@KF7P But its easer to get to the utility ground rod going into the house and out, is that ok.

@@markstump7079 never bound to the wiring inside the house tbh

(3:25) Wow, the small box went from $137 to $235 sometime in the last five years (in 2023)? Man that COVID! Nearly doubled the price of steel boxes and copper sheeting huh?

What are you using to connect coax connectors to copper plate ? looks like a coax coupling thru a grounding connector ?
@KF7P
@KF7P 5 жыл бұрын
Most of these photos show lightning arrestors mounted to the copper sheet, which grounds the coax shield and protects the center conductor as well. It is possible to use a coax ground bus www.kf7p.com/KF7P/Coax_Ground_Bus.html and a bulkhead connector to only ground the coax shield, but that leaves the center conductor vulnerable.

The boxes you fabricate look great but, The Fact Is-- Every Cable Entry Point is Broken While threaded into your box. Break Points are Always a Problem when diagnosing continuity issues.. *Continuous* entry is usually always fool-proof.

I'd recommend using quality connectors and the proper tools when terminating coax. IF done properly there is little chance of problems down the road. Look at any contest station....there are a dozen cable connectors between the radio and the antenna. Also if you don't "break" the cable you can't put an arrestor in-line in the proper spot.
