Native speakers don't usually start with "Me gustaria...." when telling a server what they want to order.

that's in every country though, formalities are usually dropped in favour of getting to the point. In English we should be saying "May I have one order of fries please" but obviously easier to say "a plate of fries mate". But it's still good to teach formally and let the student make their own contractions to the language as they please
