My system, for anyone who's curious: Ok, so my organization system is quite similar, but I'm the type of person that has to organize on something physical and tangible, so I have a notebook. It's 21 lines on each page, and each day of the week (starting on Monday) gets 3 lines. The top line is school assignments that I need to complete that day (I'm in a sort of self-paced online school). The next line is places I need to be, appointments, and such. The final line is non-school tasks I need to complete, like filming and editing videos or organizing my binders of work and sheet music. I do like to make it pretty, but I'm too cheap to have enough supplies to consider it a full-on bullet journal.

Brianna Lanzen bullet journals aren't about supplies though, the original system is to have an affective and customizable journal , that doesn't take a lot of time or commitment, so I could definitely see your system falling under that description :)

"Don't spend more time on organizing than on doing the actual work" - YES. I think Hannah's other key thing is having the unproductive days, and not worrying about being unproductive. To fuel your creativity I feel you need the slack time. But how to fit it in - rite? I think it's about throwing more stuff out of your todo lists and saying no to more stuff. I get the feeling this is also key to the bullet journal - the *migration* step (everything else seems like just scheduling and shorthand). Despite this, my own organisation is still terrible, possibly from not being able to let go of stuff :(

Ugh yes I love to talk about organisation forever. I love it. I love organising. I love to be organising forever. So journaling is super my thing because I love the journey and I love thinking about it and switching it around and playing with it. Like I'm super organised and have my priorities in order and get things done, but at the same time I love the journey. LOVE IT. I find it really helpful to watch videos on it (and decluttering and stuff) too, because you can always get new ideas and stuff.

i made the best desicion of my life this year and i got a PASSION JOURNAL!! They're really good for both short and long term planning, they make you focus on your passions and lets you develop as a person. It has a separate list for work and personal priorities, but a common calendar, a daily focus as well as weekly, and it has cute uplifting quotes and life-tips. One of my favourite pages is the monthly reflection, focusing on how you've grown and how you've worked towards your goals. also - tidy desk tidy mind 100%. My biggest problem is my sleep schedule, since i'm in school still i'm stressed a lot but i try to stop working+using my laptop at 11pm every night and turning the lights off at midnight, having my alarm at 6:30 (but usually getting up 10min before my class no matter when it is)

I organize uni. assignments, videos, etc. using a traditional agenda book planner. At the beginning of the week, I write down everything that needs to be done on each day and then highlight items once I've completed them. Not very exciting, but it seems to work for me. I also print out monthly calendars for every month of the school year and write down all of my assignment due dates, exams, and school holidays so that I can see it all in one place. At the beginning of a semester when I get the syllabus for each class, I make lists of all the readings that are recommended for each week. Again, this lets me see everything I need to get done and when, which makes it easier to plan my individual days in the agenda planner. Loved this video!

My suggestion would be writing in the to-do list allotted time for each task. If you know you have an assignment due and need to dedicate at least an hour hit that hour mark, do some of the smaller tasks then come back see what you have left and juggle what's there.
@HannaCreative
@HannaCreative 7 жыл бұрын
Paige Bernard That sound really good in theory but I find that the tasks take longer than I expected and find myself pushing all tasks back to the point where I push half of them to the next day... I recently heart of "touch everything once" so I'm giving that a try atm :/ I'll update you but thanks for the suggestion :) Maybe I should be more consistent with the time frames though... hmm :/

Hi, Lucy and Hannah! I'm a teacher so organization is a really big deal for me. You guys probably don't care much about this first bit, but in case I have other teachers reading who are interested: I do detailed lesson plans on my computer and keep them organized in folders on there, then I'll jot down the general topics and exam dates in my daily planner that I carry everywhere I go. I also use that planner to track social stuff, meetings, and appointments, and I like being able to look in and say "Okay, I need to have lesson plans done for these topics by the end of this week". I also try to have my lesson plans and materials done at least a week in advance just in case something comes up. Also, separating materials helps me think!! Because I have blank copies of future assignments, grading that needs done, and then already-graded materials to be logged and handed back, I use labeled file folders to organize those by class and by the actions I need to take (grade, log, or hand back). If you're not in a job that involves so much paper traffic and work digitally instead, this can be a healthy thing to do on your own computer just so you know where all your documents are. Hope this helps someone!

I've cleaned up my ical, I love the use of 'all day' but I hate how the calendar looks on my phone. I'll just have to turn it sideways more. Thanks Lucy and Hannah, very helpful. And I also totally nerd out on organisation... and stationary.

I love my bullet journal! It's really turned my organisation around this year. I used to be the least organised person, writing all essays the night before - I wrote my 12,000 word dissertation in two all nighters, so bad for me. It took me a few false starts with the billet journal, but keeping it simple and not making it look all "aesthetic" like the tumblr ones has made me stick to it. I love that it lets me record everything I need to in one space: to do lists, mental health, physical health, goals etc. And I'm so much more focused on paper than in a digital system where I just turn off notifications and ignore it. So yeah, go bullet journals!

Hannah is literally organisation goals!! She motivated me so much Currently I am using a bullet journal, I think the biggest flaw is that you're more likely to try and make it pretty, and so you loose your time on the aesthetic of it! I try to make it as basic as possible and it works (kinda) for me :)

I use a desk planner and I love it ! Planning my week is a pleasure : there is a side for the days and the other side is a to do list so I have both in the same place. I am absolutely not into icalendar, I prefer paper ! I think that the secret to stay organised is to stop procrastinating even the tiny little tasks. Thank you so much from France 🤗🤗

Hannah, if you use Google Calendar you can pair it with Google Keep and it puts your notes in your calendar like an event at a specific time of day and when you complete it, it moves to the top for record keeping. Also with google keep you can add labels for different task lists eg. I have work, school, and errands.

I love that your resolutions don't begin until February. I haven't figured mine out at all yet. I guess it could be that I started a KZbin channel so that's my resolution and it's done for the whole year then lol. I agree that organization is either in your blood or not. Me and my friend at uni are essentially you two; me being Hannah, because I am more organised, the shorter one and wear bright colours all the time! I stay (mostly) organised by having a large wall calendar of the year on my wall which I use to write down things like holidays, appointments, exams/deadlines, and important 'dates' like birthdays and social events. I also have to-do list on Evernote (because I can access that on my laptop and phone) which just contains many many lists including stuff I want to buy, my general shopping list, and day task lists which get deleted when completed as well as more long term to-do lists with stuff like practice guitar, read this book, etc. I find this pretty simple to keep up with too :)

Something I did wrong with my bullet journal - though I'm glad I did - is set up all my months and their note page all in a row, rather than setting up the month and continuing with its weeks and setting up the following month in the future. This works really well for me so that events and tasks are set out in plain sight (both in the month and in the future log).

I have to say this video is amazing. I'm currently working with an open book calendar (Week to an Opening) and then a separate piece of paper the next day that has: Today I will; (date) - Drink 2 litres of water (new years resolution) - Make bed (I have struggled with making this a habit for so long - apparently it's great for your health and you get to check it off first thing in the morning *motivation*!) - Planned event 1 - Planned event 2 etc etc - Read - Do 1 Rover unit Reading and Rover units aren't a priority for me so I'm happy to be flexible with the time I give them. When I go to uni I have a uni calendar and it will be added onto my Today-I-will list. Best of luck everyone! :D

personally, to keep my mental health on check, i have a VERY specific to-do list in my iPhone notes, which if you have a mac, can sync, so if you change to your laptop they will be there too. so the night before, i'll just write down what i need to do tomorrow. today's looked like this: 24/01-17 - [x] get out of bed - [x] take meds + get ready - [x] go to school - [x] make homework - [x] ask for extension - [x] do a little exercise - [x] shower - [x] write a bit those were the things i absolutely had to get done to feel satisfied. then in my calendar i have things like events, dates, appointments etc. and i have a separate excel document for my budget. i like being organized - a lot!

So interesting! I love having everything laid out really big in front of me and since im at my desk 90% of the time, I have one huge ass calendar with all the months of the year all in that one big sheet (it's the size of a huge poster) and I write all social/big things down on that. And then I have another weekly calendar that gets updated every week specifically for my study schedule/work which is divided into morning-afternoon-evening. The next to it is my Uni timetable and lastly, I have a white board on top of those two where I write down my to do lists. Basically 4 things which keep me hella organised.

Pretty much my whole university life is in one notebook. I just got a lined notebook from paperchase and dedicate 2 pages to a 5 day week, on one page I list everything that needs to be done and assign it a colour dependent on what unit it's for, and then on the other page I header Monday to Friday and fill in what needs to be done on each day. I make sure to tick things off as I go with the corresponding colours because you get a sense of achievement each time you complete something. I've found this really helps me stay productive, I had a big struggle in first year because I felt as though I was constantly working with no allocated gaps in between, but with this method I don't allow myself to work at all other than 9-5 Monday to Friday, giving me evenings and weekends off every week. If, of course, I have something going on during the week and can't work on a Wednesday, for example, either Saturday or Sunday will become the new Wednesday for that week meaning that I still have 5 days on 2 days off :)

I know I'm commenting years later but I have used a bullet journal for YEARS now and it got me through my last 3 years of university and now post-school. For me, I find it nice because of the customization stuff, and I find the task of decorating it was really relaxing. In my layout, I do all my month things (calendars, weekly spread, trackers) first and then everything else that has less structure like decoration pages, receipts, drawings are added after that. So I'll draw up and decorate for the upcoming month towards the end of the current month and in my head, I'm thinking "you put your time and effort to make it look good, use it to the potential it has". Because I made it look nice, it motivates me to keep up with my tasks and fill in trackers, and all the other stuff in there.

Any kind of chat about organisation is a good chat! My method is very, very basic and not pro like Hannah's haha! I have a diary that has a page for each day of the week. Each night, I write a do to list on the next day's page for that day. I've found I can't plan a week at a time, unless there are specific jobs I know need to be done on certain days (eg. put the bins out on thursday). Doing this the night before also helps me to wind down in the evening, because it's also like a brain dump. That way I'm not lying in bed stressing about if i'll have forgotten about a certain task come the morning (which used to happen all the time). And as this is all done in a diary, it's also where I write all my appointments and events and stuff. Having 1 page per day is amazing! And I find physically writing way more effective for me than digital.

So interesting to see other people's organisational techniques :) I'm currently studying for my A-Levels so I like to mainly use to-do lists, a work diary and also post it notes if I'm doing revision. Also using a whiteboard for reminders can be really useful

Oh my gosh I just finished watching the video and realized that I'm supposed to be doing my homework right now. But anyway, I could relate to almost everything Lucy said. Of course, I'm only a high schooler so I don't know about the whole financial thing, but my opinions on organization are similar, if not the same as Lucy's. Organization to me is like exercising. I want to do it and I always feel better after doing it, but I don't have enough self motivation or self discipline to actually make myself commit to the task. For example, I'm watching a video about organization when I'm supposed to be sticking to my schedule and finishing my homework. My New Years resolution is to always stick to my schedule, and to not put things off or delay my personal deadline for specific things. I've obviously already failed, but unlike the traditional New Years resolution, my goal is just to be able to do this regularly and without struggle by the end of the year.

I'm a paper planner person I have been for the past 7-8 years and currently I'm in love with one of the sugar paper ones from target. It's very cheap and has two columns one on the left for hour to hour appointments and one next to it for day to day to do lists plus a monthly view at the beginning of every month. It's honestly perfection and if I'm every feeling overwhelmed or just stressed I'll take 10-15 minute to review what I have coming up for the next week and start to block in daily to do lists. Somehow electronic organization has never worked for me maybe someday.

I'm a student so mine might be a little different, but I have one google calendar with several sub calendars (it's the best feature ever). So I have one calendar per class which I use to mark out classes, professors office hours and any big deadlines, one for birthdays and anniversaries and also term breaks and holidays and then one for my exam and essay schedule. So if I want to see any particular event type, i can just switch on that calendar. I do keep a bullet journal, because I prefer writing down, but it's not fancy AT ALL. It's pretty much just a to do list type which I write in the new day every day (just like the OG bullet journaling video) Also I use Remente which is good for long term goals like improving your mental health or becoming healthier and for tracking your mood. Hope you have fun organising, Lucy!

I'm with Hannah on why I don't bullet journal. It's too tedious and I end up working on organizing what I need to do than actually doing them. What really helped me in my final year of uni and is still the most useful thing ever, is my Samsung Galaxy Note 4. It was like having a PDA (a device from the 90's that adults had, not the other acronym) at my finger tips. The note had digital journals that save me from carrying a planner and gave me the flexibility to make changes easily. I also love moving my schedules and deadlines onto my digital calendar on my phone and setting my alarms like days and weeks ahead. My biggest tip for students is at the beginning of the year, look at all your syllabi input all of your big assignments' deadlines into your phone and digital calendars and set alarms for them a week or two in advance. This motivated me to keep on top of it little by little, even if I wanted to slack off a bit. Also Post-its!!! Writing my to-do lists and setting it on top my laptop or in a place that I always look at everyday, really helps remind me of what I had to do and kept me on schedule. :)

I have a system! Firstly, I draw up a huge forward planner on an A3 sheet of that goes on my wall. It goes for 10 weeks and has all my deadlines and appointments. Secondly, I use an online calendar to plan out a bit more specifically what I need to be doing that week. So basically if I have something due in December, I'll have the due date and time on my forward calendar and plan when I want each of the steps done by in my weekly calendar. Lastly, I have a to-do list that is a 2X2 table and in each box, I have one of the headings, homework (tasks due for school), exam prep (tasks I'm doing for school that aren't due), personal (things like taking a shower, journaling etc), other(this for me is work and chores usually). It seems really complicated but it's really working for me.

If you are looking for a paper diary I would recommend either couples or mums diaries as they have lots of sections for each day rather than a big space. The mum ones from Smiths are great as they have five vertical sections to separate with things like work, personal, KZbin. Or the Busy B planners have the same week on opposite pages and that is great for just separating out online and offline or work and personal things.

I guess you could say that I'm 'the organized one' out of our friend group, and the one tip I think I tell everyone that asks is not to put everything off. Not in the procrastination way that you can't be bothered or similar, but in the 'I'll wait till the first of next month to start this new thing I'm doing' or even 'oh I'll start Monday.' This wastes so many days and you'll usually find an excuse to put it back to next week or next month. Nobody is going to care you started your new system on a Thursday, or on the 14th, or at 3pm on a bank holiday. It doesn't matter. Don't keep putting it off.

I'm not a naturally organized person but as you said, I totally need it for my mental health. I'm prone to anxiety so havig weekly planners and to do lists help against the feeling of overwhelm during stressful times, but this video and the recent Lily Pebbles one I think have convinced me to get my shit together and use the tools available to be more productive and organized, like bullet journaling. Thanks ladies

I would love to see Lucy be on a news channel or talk show, giving advice and discussing important issues! I hope when the KZbin audience grows and evolves into full on adults, youtubers will be seen more in mainstream media. It would be so great because they already have an audience which could continue to evolve.

I'm currently using the bulletjournal system and it's working so well for me. Having something to check off really motivates me, as well as having to transfer things to the next day makes me more likely to do it. I don't spend a lot of time on the looks of it, so that doesn't take a lot of my time. I basically just use colored pens to make it look all bright (but no color coding). I use daily to do lists as well as monthly goals and monthly trackers on things I want to do more often that month. I also have a lot of collections, because I'm the type to always have a notebook on me for song ideas or doodles, so I do that in there as well, so my ideas are no longer scattered throughout ten different notebooks. I also keep track on books I want to read and such, and it's just a really good system for me. Some days I just write a to do list and other days when I have more time, I get more fancy with it. I'd definitely recommend bullet journaling to everyone, but the original kind that doesn't focus on looking cute, because that takes so much time :D (like, you can make it cute, but you don't have to)

I am in my final year at uni and at the start of the year, I decided I needed a new way of doing things so I could keep up with all of my work but not be swamped near to deadlines. I just have an Excel document with every week going down and Monday - Sunday going across the top. I have time slots from 8am until 8pm. Classes go in black, uni work goes in green, and personal stuff goes in purple. Deadlines are highlighted in pink at the top of the day so I can't miss them. Cannot tell you how much my life has improved since I started this, and I can see myself keeping it for a long time.

I have mainly three things : one- a Bullet Journal : every sunday i throw away all my receipts and trash off my bags, check my bank accounts, and plan my week on my BuJo. I make a list of all the things i have to accomplish this week, and every night before bed i choose from this list what i want/need to do the day after (so i wake up and everything is neat and clear!) two- a calendar with appointments and meetings and night i go out with friends and three- at this end of each week i ask myself how did i get closer to my goals this week ? (this implies having set clear goals at the beginning of the year, but no BS resolutions of new year, i'm talking about goals like ''having put xxx euros in my save deposit'' or ''have my driver license'' etc.)

I started a bullet journal when I started my gap year, but that was because I needed to feel productive even though I wasn't because I didn't have a job at the time. So my bullet journal was elaborate and I planned tiny things for myself just to create the illusion that I was doing things. When I did get a job though, that journal was simply too much work, and I bough a premade calender. But like Lucy mentioned, I need my own system, so bullet journaling really is optimal for me. On top of that I have trouble being organised, so creating my own journal and designi it made it a project and an achievement to finish it, which was a huge motivator! Now I do bullet journaling, but way more minimalistic than the one I used to do 😊

When I first decided to be more organized, I bought a 24/7 appointment planner from Amazon. I was able accomplish tasks within their deadlines because I had just about every hour planned out. I also made sure to set a specific time for breaks or relaxation. And everything was highlighted a specific color. So I would highlight work-related items, appointments, school-related items, and leisure time all different colors. Once I got into the habit of planning out my day, I started using iCalendar in that same manner. Each category has their own color-specific calendar. I also like using the Notes app on my iPhone to make checklists. This is especially helpful for grocery shopping and to-do lists.

Last year I kept myself organised with one notebook that had everything in it but then I found I was losing the pages with video/blog ideas and so this year I have upped my game with a daily journal that you write the date on the top of the page, a lined post-it pad for organising my monthly vlog, a small book for monthly favourites, a big note book for video ideas, a physical calendar with each weeks video/things I need to leave the house for, everything written in my google calendar (birthdays, videos, appointment, day job hours) I have a blog planner and a specific note book for organising my money. It's working really well so far even if my desk looks a bit overwhelmed by it all
