Anya, you didnt quit and that on itself is already something to be extremely proud of. And like you said, this race will probably help you so so much in Berlin. 2 weeks out - LETSGOOO!!!!!

This was my first half in my first year of running in 2022. I remember I was so happy with my 2 hours 12 minutes!! This year I really struggled with the heat. I probably started a full hour after you and by the time we finished it felt so hot! 2 hours 5 minutes and I was very disappointed. I then found an article that said optimal running temp was up to 15 degrees. For every degree over 15 degrees runners can lose 4 seconds per km which do add up over 21.1km... Very well done on your run which considering the conditions was actually quite good!

This is so helpful bc we all have bad races so it’s great to hear how you mentally move past it and use it for better races in future!! Can you talk more about the pre race mental prep/mental techniques you mentioned in the video?

You are literally my biggest inspiration. Especially seeing how much you've grown and improved since 3-4 years ago. You remind me that consistency, love for running, and BALANCE (social life, work, etc) and accepting the cyclical nature of running (not always needing to be at peak fitness) can lead to immense growth in the end. This video was extremely helpful -- especially since The Big Half was a race I was looking forward to and I absolutely didn't follow the pacing strategy I had laid out (some technical malfunction + no sub pacer) and I went out way too quick, falling off the second half, wanting to give up so badly but I did keep going and am proud of that. Although it was a PB for me, I knew I was fitter and able to get my goal time if I had just ran smarter. I was kicking myself afterwards. BUT still grateful for a body to move and buzzing to keep working and for a "next race". GOOD LUCK AT BERLIN!!! You're going to crush it.

I was 7 mins off a PB from 1 month ago. Never under estimate the heat.

Different Half Marathon for me in Germany but same temperature issues. 25-27°C and I almost couldn´t believe how high the heart rate readings went while doing "usual"/moderate pace. I just feel like for everything above 10k the heat really kills any chance of getting a PB.

I am struggling at the minute. Not sure how much of it is training fatigue, how much is the heat and how much is plateauing after a couple of year's solid progression. Maybe the biggest factor is that approaching 50 years old do I want it enough l, do I want to hurt enough both in training and races for further progression? Feels like I am a long way away from where I want to be but in reality I am not that far away.

I hated the Vaporfly 2, I loved the 1’s but the V3 are a different league they’re so much better. I think they have improved the Zoom X foam it’s so much more responsive

Hi Anya, I notice you had rolled oats for breakfast and not the tubs of easy mix. Do you just add hot water or do they have to be cooked in a microwave? I ask because I am doing the MasPalomas marathon in November and with an early start the dining room of the Hotel isn’t open and therefore no access to cook only a kettle available. Keep doing what you are your videos are not only enlightening but also bring a smile. Thank you.

A lack of hydration and pacing misjudgment- all obvious ingredients for a bad race. It happens. You won’t repeat those mistakes in Berlin. And hopefully Berlin won’t be as hot.
