Practise makes perfect reading aloud often in preparation. I view my audience as friends and family close people. I also ramp up my confidence by reaffirming that I am great and people need to hear me and will love me!!!
@Presencetraininguk5 жыл бұрын
That's great. The principle of reaffirming that you're great ad people need to hear you and will love you is very similar to something I teach called "Assume Support". Even though audiences often listen with blank faces it doesn't mean that they are dis-interested - it's just the way that people listen. So we assume that people are really interested in what you have to say regardless of what their face is doing! See this video for more information - kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGiXgoSIqr5kea8

I'm touched to read your commend B&WM. It's actually really normal to be worried what other people think of us - in fact we are programmed to be this way. (It was part of our evolutionary survival), but now this mechanism is out of date. The solution is to come out of our heads and into our bodies (I start to show you how in this video). Do check out the other videos on our channel which give some more pointers in this direction. There are also quite a few blog pieces on our website that explain more about this - check out presencetraining.co.uk/blog-alternative-public-speaking-tips/ - The bottom line is that the only way to stop worrying about what others think is to love yourself more. But the secret is that this isn't done with your head it's done with your feelings and your body, and it a moment by moment practice. I wish you luck, grace and courage. Daniel

Start off by speaking to small groups, or people you trust, using these techniques, and then *gradually* increase the difficulty level. We learn best when we give ourselves a series of small gentle stretches, rather than throwing ourselves in at the deep end! I wish you all success. Great tips Daniel, thank you. Having always had an absolute fear of public speaking after been forced to aged 8 at school always had to feign illness for the day, so recently joined a local Toastmasters club. Haven't done my maiden speach yet however have won 3 out of 5 two minute instant speaches on random subjects. Using your tecniques, find they work brilliantly, both socially and within the club and confidence has been boosted tremendously. So much so that can't wait to make maiden 7 minute speech very soon.

What's a toastmasters club?
@Presencetraininguk5 жыл бұрын
@@jessicaj8564 Toastmasters is an international network of public speaking clubs, where people come to learn, practice and compete in public speaking competitions. Their style is considerably less focussed on authenticity than the style that we teach (it's a much more old-fashioned performance-based style), but if you're looking for a place to practice public speaking at a fairly low cost, they represent a good option. If you google them you will probably find a branch in your area.

Nice video. My problem is impromptu speaking at groups of people. Not knowing what to say so I talk faster and with little depth. I enjoy speaking in public if I know what I am supposed /reheased. Any suggestions?
@Presencetraininguk5 жыл бұрын
Hi Stewart. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Being able to speak naturally impromptu comes with practice and naturally happens as your confidence grows. In fact all of the suggestions in the video will help with this. In addition the principle of Assuming Support from your audience may assist (see this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGiXgoSIqr5kea8) also those of letting go of trying and deliberately taking your time, (also explained in these videos - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b2O0d35qgqx2qsk and kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWOwhHRonNeBibc). Lastly a willingness to Get it Wrong can also help - check this video out kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHS8m6idds-qopY. And of course, if you can get to London you're welcome on one of our public courses any time :) I hope this helps!

Next Saturday I am the best man at my brothers wedding and I’m absolutely dreading it ,hopefully these tips will work
@Presencetraininguk5 жыл бұрын
Hi Darren. They should really help! But the most important thing to remember about doing a best man speech is that the audience really want you to do well! They are the best audience you could possibly imagine - they are in a good mood and slightly drunk. They *want* to laugh, so if you give them any excuse they will! Provided you don't say anything too outrageous or offensive you can say anything you like. Do run your speech past a couple of close friends to check it's not over any lines and the jokes work well enough. Provided your "material" is OK you really can't go wrong. It's OK to be nervous - provided you use the tips I've given you the nerves almost certainly won't get out of hand. Focus instead on how much you care about your friend getting married. Make sure to speak about your love and friendship for them and your best wishes as well as (slightly) embarrassing them. The more you focus on wanting the best for them the less you'll worry about yourself. You could even start your speech by saying something like: "I'm really nervous right now as I don't like speaking in public, but I couldn't pass up the chance to be XX's best man, to tell you how happy I am for him and [his new wife] (and of course to embarrass him a little!)". Like I said a wedding audience is the best and easiest you'll ever stand in front of. I've coached lots of best men and it's always turned out OK in the end :) Let me know how you do. Daniel

@danielkingsley5 жыл бұрын
Thank you Kenny. I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it helpful. The 3rd one is a door into the field of embodiment and Embodied Leadership, which is an entire field in itself. A good place to practice is when talking to a group of friends, since all the principles still apply. You can then transition to increasingly challenging environments. These principles all work in front of any size group (though it can be hard to get eye contact when the audience is absolutely huge).

Some good advice but what if the thought of sounding confident makes you feel like people might see you as arrogant and that makes you feel uncomfortable or nervous? Also do you have tips for speaking infront of a camera, to a live audience or as video.👍🏼✌🏼
@Presencetraininguk4 жыл бұрын
Hi Brooker. It's great that you don't want to sound arrogant, which is also important. The key is that audiences want their speakers to be both powerful and warm. If you hold an intention to *include* your audience in your talk and a sense of feeling warmly about them, in my experience you won't seem arrogant. If you watch my videos about stopping performing (kzbin.info/www/bejne/gGWkmpytnrqtasU) and seeing and being seen (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6vZdHmmo8l8e6c) this will give you some more ideas about this. The video you have just watched deals with speaking to a live audience. When I'm speaking to a camera, I look straight into the camera and imagine that I'm speaking to one person who is listening attentively to what I have to say. This works well for me!

I hear you! It does seem easier to avoid it - but that's not going to work too well for those people who simply *have* to do it! And it's a pity to avoid it, as with the right technique and understanding, it can even be (believe it or not) enjoyable. Plus the world needs us to find our voice and speak what needs to be said.
