A general rule for determining the right time to change lane is exactly the one you explain at 3:16-3:20. But during that moment, beside verbal explanation, you should also provide visual display that shows full appearance of other car behind on the left lane (the truck in this case) in the left side mirror.

Hi Dane, great vedio.. if u can clarify the right time to signal,, 1. Mirror , signal, mirror , quick side glance if way is clear change lane Or 2. mirror , if way is clear , signal , mirror , quick side glance and change lane. so shd u signal only if way is clear and just before changing lane OR shd u signal to show ur intention to other road users and wait for the way to be clear , during changing lanes.
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 5 жыл бұрын
Your signal is an intention of where you want to go not an automatic right of way mechanism. So you should signal after mirrors as a way of letting others know what you want to do regardless of whether you are able to go or not

When should you glance left/right vs looking over shoulder (blind spot check)? From what I can gather the glance is when you’re at speed (e.g. overtaking), and the blind spot check is when moving from a slow speed or stopped completely. Also should you always do a glance or blind spot check before the manoeuvre ? E.g. Mirrors, signal, mirrors, glance/blind-spot, manoeuvre

@rcraven1013
@rcraven1013 7 ай бұрын
In the UK one can overtake other vehicles whilst in the zig zag lines of a ped. crossing but if traffic is stopped or stopping for the purpose of allowing peds. to cross you cannot overtake the vehicle nearest the crossing proper. If however there is no one using the crossing and vehicles are slowing or queuing then you can overtake all traffic within the zig zag lines [ That was a recent stated case in law of a taxi driver in Blackpool who overtook a line of stopped traffic at a crossing and they were stopped as in a traffic queue and not stopped for the purpose of allowing peds. to cross.

@@DaneTygheletsdrive and what about things that you cannot see by turning your head and using the standard mirrors yet will see in blind spot mirrors? Surely you must agree, that the more you can see the safer you and surrounding road users would be. It's not always possible to see to your rear or left passenger windows when you have 4 other people in the car with you. Are you saying there is no advantage to having blindspot mirrors even though they're becoming popular and standard in many European countries?
@DaneTygheletsdrive

If people want to use these blind spot mirrors then that's fine, they are great for buses and trucks, my point is that they are so small that they have limited value, how about being more aware by making extra looks earlier and more frequently instead of relying on these blind spot mirrors, if you think that I'm going to start a campaign for these things to encourage laziness then you are sadly mistaken.

Hi, Dane. Is there a specific different between the left and the right blind spot? I think the tester focus more on the right one. but also are they have different angel for example. ??? Also I was thinking is there a common mistake for the automatic cars drivers?? like applying the handbrake?? Thanks
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 7 жыл бұрын
+Motasem HA You see more in the left blind spot usually because there is more glass, the right blind spot is more restricted but the right one is more important if the car is right hand drive because that's the side that they overtake on. You don't have to use the handbrake as much in an automatic but you should still use it as lights and on hill starts. In an automatic it's very important to avoid creeping unnecessarily in traffic queues, sometimes the handbrake is the best way to avoid this.

@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 7 жыл бұрын
You definitely should not use the bus lane to overtake unless it is unavoidable, like going around an accident in order to keep traffic flowing. It's better to just let the person in front turn and then proceed, as opposed to using the bus lane for what would be minimum benefit. Sometimes bus lanes can be used by regular vehicles at certain times but that depends on the area.

That's the myth yes. The truth is that they are unnecessary on standard cars if the driver is sitting in a proper position with the mirrors properly adjusted. A quick sideways glance can also help eliminate blind spots. The blind spot mirrors have a place on bigger vehicles like trucks and buses and vans but on cars they can lead to a false sence of security.

@@DaneTygheletsdriveNo it's not a myth. Blind spot mirrors are standard on the new cars. Why is that I wonder? It's also a myth that you cannot judge approximately how far the car in your blind spot is. Use a road marking you have just passed and see how long it will take for the car in the mirror to pass. Try it, you'll be surprised. There's a lot of facts that driving instructors are advised not to let their students know. Like undertaking being legal on motorways.

In the Uk you should not cross over a solid white line or one where there are hash markings inside. They are a no no except in emergency situations or when absolutely necessary. However you can go into hash lines if they are bordered by a broken white line. Then the H. Code says one can use when necessary but the DVSA handbook on Essential skills allows you to use that bit of road as and when you like. Why is it that both the H.C. and the DVSA Handbook, which are government publications from the same Highways authority, say different things about the use of hash lines with broken white line borders?

Are you allowed to overtake a bus picking up clients on the day of the test provided its safe
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 6 жыл бұрын
Yes if it's safe, but only do it if you've enough room and can see clearly ahead.

Dane Tyghe So it will be a minor fault if you stay behind for too long or you missed an opportunity to overtake
@DaneTygheletsdrive
@DaneTygheletsdrive 6 жыл бұрын
@@kenyamedjeu depends how long you stay behind and what kind of space and opportunity you had to go, try position yourself right of centre for a better view and keep an eye on the indicators of the bus.

+Mhedz Homerez a good instructor needs to be patient and understanding, if he is angry then he is probably more angry at himself for not being able to communicate to you effectively. As a customer you should expect a high standard of tuition, if this is not happening you should ask your instructor to chill out or you should change to another instructor. Where are you based?

WRONG WRONG WRONG. At 3.00 we are on a motorway and overtaking a truck. After the overtake we are advised to look behind and into our nearside mirror to see the vehicle we have just overtaken and then when seen we pull back into the inside lane, THAT IS ALL WRONG AND DANGEROUS. For one thing both external mirrors do not give us anything like a truthful indication of the distance behind. They are so designed to give a larger field of vision and as such they distort the true distance of anything we have just overtaken by twice the true distance. So much so that in truth if we look into our external mirrors and see that truck or whatever in it then maybe its seen to be say some 60 ft. behind us but in our truthful internal mirror the distance looks only to be some 30 ft. that being the actual and true proper distance. So say at 60 mph., your speed and you pull in giving only some 30 ft of safe stopping space you are cutting him up and causing him to be tailgating you until you have moved a lot further, much further down the road and eventually given the safe stopping or following on distance as per the H.C. which at 60 mph. should be in the region of 240 ft. So. the question is ........ 30 ft?or 60 ft? or the distance of 240 ft. Come on you know which is safest. One advanced driver I know says he always obeys the 2 second rule and after every overtake he counts 2 seconds and pulls in. I pointed out to him that for every 10 mph faster he is doing as opposed to the car being overtaken he is only increasing his distance away from it per second by 15 ft.., ie 15ft. per every 10 mph. So by giving just a 2 second gap he is now, after the overtake only some 30 ft in front [ but looking like 60 ft if viewed in his nearside mirror] and by pulling in he is creating not on only an offence in law [ without due care and attention or without reasonable consideration ];[ or possibly driving dangerously, in the event of an accident ] but of also being of greater danger to himself, the vehicle he has just overtaken and further more all other road users on that road at that time That's cos tailgating costs lives.
