Great job, I have received multiple bikes from eBay sellers, 2 out of 10 were packed with this attention to detail, those 2 traveled safely, the others came with some sort of damage to the frame due to poor packaging, i.e scratched frames, bent chain guards, derailleurs and rims. Nice video

Good information. Was stressing over how to return a bike I had purchased. Still have the bike but threw out some of the styrofoam. The advice to go to a local bike shop to get stuff for the front forks and caps for the wheels is invaluable.

That's one lucky bike , good video , the best detailed bike shipping video I have seen so far. I just use Cardboard to rap the bike , but I would pack it well if I was selling it.

Nice video, I've shipped a few Moultons around the world and do much the same. I also use old 'Jiffy' bags (are they called the same in the USA?) - padded mail envelopes - to go over extremities. Only had one small problem ever (bent Sturmey index rod and broken rear reflector to a Deluxe that went to Hong Kong) and UPS insurance paid out promptly!

Good protection. However if you took the forks off, you could use a box with similar width and height, but only 80cm long. Then, if all sides are under 1 meter like that, it can then be check-in luggage for flights instead of the more expensive oversize luggage. As well, if couriering the bike, the main cost is usually in the size of the box not the weight, so typically you'll courier at a cheaper price with a 80 x 70 x 22cm box as opposed to a more typical-sized bike box like the ones you get from the bike shop. Some bike boxes ship at double the courier price than the 80 x 70 x 22, like those 140 x 75 x 20cm ones Giant uses for their road bikes. Finally, you can carry a 80 x 70 x 22cm box easily.

What is the size of this box? I've a free sport luggage transport, but there is a limitation on weight which is 23 kg and size which is 210cm as a total of height, width and length. Do you think that's possibile to pack 21'' bike with 28'' wheels into box with this size?

Can I use this technique when taking my bike as a luggage into the plane? For example when I want to use my bike on a trip in a different country. Thanks.

It makes no difference what the size/weight of the box I used was. They come in different sizes. Go to a bike shop, get a box, and measure and weigh it.

I read somewhere that if you say the box contains a TV, the delivery workers don't throw it around.
@RJTheBikeGuy8 жыл бұрын
The was where the boxes had a tv pictured on it.
@stilianivanov33778 жыл бұрын
David Fraser Im a "delivery worker" myself, and from all these years of experience i can tell that no matter if its TV, laptop or a lamp - they all fly like a paper planes. There is nothing you can do about it, but pray for that box. A big "FRAGILE" on the sides of the box would do better.
@DavidFraser0078 жыл бұрын
I'm no expert and I'll probably never do this. But I had a new bike delivered once, in 1985 from UK to Germany. It arrived in good condition and it wasn't broken down into as many separate parts or wrapped as thoroughly as RJ did. Maybe that was more luck than design. Anyway, I still have the bike and it's still in decent condition. (Yes, I still love it).
@mitchelllewis86738 жыл бұрын
Now just add a picture of a TV on the outside like Canyon did and you won't have to worry about it being chucked around in transit.
@jamespelechoski40796 жыл бұрын
What is the pipe insulation going to do? Just to protect the paint? Doesn’t make sense if some operator crushes your bike that stuff will not help
@RJTheBikeGuy6 жыл бұрын
It helps protect the frame from being scratched, dented, banged up against other parts, etc. No, it is not going to protect the bike if they drop it into a crusher, but then not much will.

Hey boss any suggestions on freight companies to use to ship from California to Florida? I'm going to price UPS FedEx and then trucking companies to see what the best deal is. could sure use some input. It's a giant brand street bike with 29 inch rims. I had the same idea putting it into a box just like you head down here.

It's costs £190 to post a bicycle. Its costs £100 for me, a 23kg hold bag, a cabin bag with no weight limit, and sports equipment(bicycle box). With easy jet one way. For £190 i can have with a return flight. A complete rip off to ship a bicycle.
