Cool. I'm going to try this out on mine. The diverter ball (or whatever mine uses) seems contaminated as I can hear air leaking from the secondary side as I pump. I think water or maybe tire sealant have gooped it up. I found this video as it was referred by Tony Marchand in one of his videos.

Well, how about that. I took mine apart and, sure enough, there was some tire sealant and dirt that were in there with the little diverter ball. Also, the Presta side was really worn, just like you indicated. I swapped and flipped them, used some pool sealant lubicant on the orings and put it back together. Boom, back to working for another 20 years. Thank you, sir.

I found that if you can get that inner handle bar locking piece loose and it’s the main shaft, leave it soaking with peanatrating grease over night, spray it again, then wack the underside with a rubber mallet till it come loose. Worked like a charm.

OMG, I have had this problem on my 2004 Giant Rincon for YEARS and never found a good fix article. Exact replacements are scarce and I was hoping to fix to avoid full removal and replacement of combination shifter/brake deck, hand grip, cables, etc. I'm going to go try this right now.

Homemade chainwhip Grab a 2x4, some random screws, washers, and a bike chain. Slap the chain down the wood, making sure about 8 inches is placed on the wood and 10-20" hangs off. Screw it down with washers - one at the top of the wood, another at the chain's end. Boom. Instant DIY bike tool. Pro tip: More screws = more grip. Just don't go crazy.

Thank you so much. Owning used, dept. store quality bikes that have been neglected by previous owners, combined w/ my inexperience fixing them and my ability to get confused easily, usually when I come across a malfunctioning part, or someone else's error, had me in a jam. First, I had a rear derailleur CAGE that was itself bent in, so I pulled it out by eye and got it bent correctly. Then I got a derailleur straightener tool, but it was low quality and the first 2 times I tried to use it, I was getting inconsistent measurements due to it's loose tool parts - I overlooked a set screw. Got that learned and a directly attached derailleur unbent, and I had a derailleur bolt that was likely not installed right, or perhaps missing threadlocker, and when I discovered it half way out -loose, I tried to tighten it in an aluminum frame, and of course the threads quickly gave out. So I did not know if it was supposed to be free spinning, or was stripped. So I drilled it out and cut new threads with a helicoil like kit, and screwed the new threads in - but my frame is relatively thin where the derailleur bolt goes in, so the helicoil stuck out the back and had to be pulled some then cut once the threadlocker dried for 24 hours. But when I pulled on it too much, it started to unthread, and I ruined the new threads, and had to start over again. I ended up ordering a new derailleur for just $14, (in case that derailleur pivot bolt was the problem). Before the new derailleur could come, I finally got everything working together. When it rains, it pours.

I had the dealership do this as part of the 100k service. Wish I had just done it myself. Now I have a buzzing from the ignition sometimes when turning the key over which means that there is a current draw problem somewhere. I doubt it's the electronic ignition part since this showed up right after the service. Now I have to redo this whole process again myself this time to make sure the connections are tight or they didn't damage the coils.

11mm long socket works a treat, I installed a new fox fork a month ago using your tip, yesturday cut a steerer off a used bike I recently bought, cut 20mm and used the 11mm long socket again to drive down the star nut by 20mm. Thank you.
@Ronald-qj5nx
@Ronald-qj5nx 4 күн бұрын
Many people do not have a bench vice to securely hold the fork when trying to hammer in the star nut into the steerer tube. If you just place the fork legs on the ground and hammer at the other end, the fork will absorb the hammer blows thus making it difficult for the star nut to be forced into the steerer tube, especially if it is a MTB suspension fork, even more so if the wheel and tyre are fitted. Use a piece of timber between the fork crown and the floor so that the fork legs are suspended in the air and unable to absorb any of the hammer blows.

First time doing this, bought the coin shaped wrench. With the bike resting on the seat and bars, I just needed to know which way tightens and which way loosens the spokes, once I knew that, the rest was common sense. I took my sharpie marker and rested it on the brake bad as I’m spinning the wheel for my high spots, I couldn’t believe how the wheel just spun with no runout. Local bike shop wanted to make a total production out of it. The coin was 4 bucks at Amazon. You don’t need a truing stand.

You're the best!! I was having issues with my Shimano 105 ST5500 shifter, because I hadn't ridden the bike in years. Was already watching videos on how to rebuild it. Decided to check out alternate methods and ran across your video. Flooded it with WD40 and not 30-seconds later, everything is shifting like new!!! Now I have to get the lube you recommended. THANK YOU!!!

Well I got as far as tapping up the partially unscrewed allen key bolts at the bottom of the legs and then pulling down on the lowers. They would not come off, wouldn't drop even an inch, so I gave up. The coils had come out looking very clean anyway prior to that.
