@G Leggett Same. We had one bookshop in the small town I grew up in which had a lonely corner they would stack a smattering of GW product in. Every time I went in there I would check to see what new goodies they had got in. Bought my hardback Rogue Trader rulebook there as well as the good ol' RTB01 Beakie Marines box set. I even got the very same Terminator squad box shown in this video, had to save up for weeks and I was scared it was going to be gone by the time I had enough money. My child brain at the time obviously couldn't muster enough initiative to realise I could've put it on layby. Still one of my favourite GW miniature sets of all time.

Ohhhh my days Duncan, pure nostalgia. These are my favourite Terminators. Awesome paint job. And like you I'd find them at bootsales etc back in the 90s. Only thing your missing is a heavy gloss coat for that truly retro feel.

The Terminators have aged the best of all the retro models. I would've loved a huge force of those stomping down the battlefield.
@Senbei013 жыл бұрын
It depends on the Terminator. The VERY old ones have aged a fair deal (The three Prototypes and early Space Hulk plastics... possibly the first set of Grey Knights), but the 1st Ed "Terminator Squad" box really nailed the aesthetic that they've stuck with ever since. Even some of the more obscure variations (The 'Traitor Terminator' set and the two Terminator Inquisitors) still look pretty damned good... if not a tad small when stood next to newer plastics.
@johnfarscape Жыл бұрын
I think the proportions was best on these, overall I think the rogue trader harlequins also aged really well, they look miles better than hhe never ones imo, same with the old, 2nd sculpt deamonettes.

This is my first time watching one of your videos. As someone who will be getting back into miniature painting having not done it since the early 90s, this was really helpful. I much prefer the older, brighter painting style from back in the day, and is the style I’ll be going with when I come to paint all of my retro minis. I found the info bits you put on screen really useful, showing the brushes and paints you use in each step. And it’s great that you use modern, easy to get paints rather than using the actual paints from back in the day! Thank you!

I hold so much nostalgia for these metal Terminators. I remember staring at the 'Eavy Metal pictures in 2nd and 3rd edition codexes and White Dwarf, marvelling at how on earth the painter (could've even been Mike McVey?) was able to pull off these smooth blends and crisp lines. That's a huge part of my earliest hobby memories. Good times. Thanks for bringing that back!

I got back into the hobby at the start of the pandemic having been away since about 2005 and I decided to start a 2nd/3rd edition Ultramarines Army recently. I was lucky enough to find someone locally who was selling their entire collection of old citadel paints and I've been scouring eBay and Oldhammer groups on facebook like a magpie. I can finally have the army I always wanted back then. Going back and reading the old rulebook and codex has been such a treat and has brought back so many nice memories from my childhood. These tips will definitely be put to good use over the next few weeks! :)

1:19 Is there any better, truer way to paint Space Marines? ^.^ My entire Ultramarines army is painted in that style and I'm loving it. For Macragge! 7:39 Yep, red guns were the thing back then (and still are for me). Quoting from an old White Dwarf: Space Marines often paints their weapons red to resemble the blood the weapons will shed in the emperor's name.
