I have just signed up for your art lessons, eager to learn. I would like to attempt this cat painting, but could it be executed successfully if I were to paint a black cat? Meaning I'm not sure how I could indicate the lines thst show the bends in the legs, tail etc.

Yes you could. I would look at some reference photos to help you see how the light bounces off the fur. You would use more black and have a dark grey to indicate where the lines are, like in the legs. Have fun!
