I forgot to mention: If you are looking for photos of cool birds to paint, use Pinterest and lookup 'Barbet birds' or 'Broadbill birds'. These are absolutely the coolest types of birds I've ever seen 😱

You re so welcome 🥰 Slowly green bird is becoming my favorite. I notice a lot how my feeling about my own artwork changes over time. Usually if I don't like something, I will save judgment for another day and push myself to finish it regardless ☺

You are so welcome! Recently I was studying videography and it's a very useful technique to show clips that sort of show the overall environment before getting into the smaller details. This makes the scope of the information in the video easier to 'prepare for' before I get into it and I think it's a technique I will try to use as much as possible 🙏 It's really suited for tutorials.

FANTASTIC video, Calvin. I love the way you cut out and arranged your birds in the shadow box as well. That’s super cool.

I love this raised shadow box effect and the colourful collage is so much fun. I love watching your videos even if I don’t try them but will definitely try this one.

I know it’s only March but I think this project will be a great Christmas gift for my father in law! With the cut out and the shadow box, it looks like so much fun!

That's a great idea! He will love it! After doing this bird shadowbox and also the butterfly one, I would say that it will always turn out good even if some birds aren't your favorite, but also I like the scientific vibe from this arrangement (like specimens) and when I do it again I'll try to organize the birds more scientifically / maybe by color, and would also add some labels using one of those embossing label makers. When I look at the birds now I can't remember what their names are 😅

Another great tutorial, Calvin! I am learning so much from you. Thank you. I’m curious what resolution and DPI did you use (to be able to print each bird at that quality and size)?

hi!! For the birds in this video, I was using the Canon Pixma inkjet printer and Fujifilm Krystal satin photo paper. The pixma is fine for printing on photo paper as long as you use the photo printed setting. If you see lines in your prints, it's because it's printing in the wrong mode. For large prints on regular paper, I prefer to use the Canon Imageclass Color Laser printer. It's not super sharp but I don't mind and it has amazing colors and deep blacks. I really love that I can use it with any paper, even cheap cardstock.
