Hey everyone! I've been getting a lot of comments asking about what sketchbook I use, what brushes, what paints, etc., so I made a FREE post on my Patreon that lists EVERYTHING I use for my traditional paintings. It's a public post, meaning you don't have to pledge to my Patreon to see it (but you're welcome to, I won't be mad lol). Here it is: www.patreon.com/posts/my-tools-brushes-38142112 If you have any questions, please leave a comment on that post so I can answer there and it can be used as sort of a master post for people wondering about what tools I use.

I’m so used to painting portraits, I just now realized how crappy my landscape painting skills are! Thanks for the tips, they’ll come in handy. Gouache is such a fun medium.

Haha I used to be the same way, when I first got into art I wanted to do portraits or character drawing and my environment skills.. well, I didn't have any lol Just takes a good amount of practice, you got this!

This is really helpful, thanks. I like how you've explained it, it made it seem less mysterious. I feel like some artists deliberately hide their process rather than share their skills and help others improve but you did the opposite of that. Beautiful painting too.

Damn, i love the way you layered the details which complemented each other and add to the whole piece itself! Also the new tree in the foreground made such a big difference lol!! great tip :o Thank you for uploading this 🌞

i've been watching james gurney this whole month and so far you are the first one i've seen that closely resembles his style...painting with a large brush..blocking..values...loosely painting...this is how i want to make art too~! someday! someday! i'll be as good asyou guys.. (i have no formal art training so don't know all the masters and their styles..i can only compare to painters i see on youtube....so osorry)
@dadozilla

No apology needed! James Gurney is one of my favorite artists and a constant source of inspiration for me (not to mention the fact that i can watch his videos for hours on end and have done so multiple times lol) so your comment is immensely flattering, thank you :) Believe me, I was in your same position just a few years ago. Every painting was a struggle, I couldn't figure things out, it was HARD. I don't think "practice makes perfect" as no artist will ever be perfect in their own eyes, but it does absolutely make you better. Now I can actually create the kind of work that a few years ago seemed so far out of reach. Of course, now there's *other* work that's still out of reach because art is always about "just a little bit better, just a little more skilled", at least for me 😅 So yes, you WILL be as good as you want to be, it may take time and a good number of failed attempts as it does for pretty much everyone, but you'll get there. It's nothing more than a matter of practice and experience. Feel free to reach out for advice if you ever need it, here, on my instagram, email, I do my best to reply to people especially if they ask for help/advice/etc :)

I am totally NOT confident in painting trees and it's branches 👀i admire how you do that so calmy and still manage to make it look super natural and proportionally correct!! 😩
@dadozilla
@dadozilla 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I used to really struggle with trees too, doing a bunch of studies focusing on individual parts of the tree (trunks, roots, foliage, etc) as well as studies of entire trees really helped me get better. A mix of photo and master studies is probably best, so you can use photos to see what a tree actually looks like and master paintings to see how other artists render the trees :)

Lovely painting and great advice Ed. I have just got some gouache paints so I am going to put your tips into practice. What is the best way to lighten the paint colours; use water to dilute or use white mixed with the colour you want to lighten? Thanks.

I really like your drawings they are amazing I was wondering if you could draw something with acrylics that will be awesome!
@dadozilla
@dadozilla 4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I don't really work with acrylics, I used to use acrylic gouache but I hated how quickly it dried up and how any leftover paint would go to waste since it can't be reactivated once it dries. I still have those paints though so maybe I'll give them another shot at some point, might be different now that I'm more comfortable with gouache in general

Sir did you use tripod for making video . Are you ever offered to review on new colours . Did you have patreon page . How did you buy expensive art materials.
@dadozilla
@dadozilla 4 жыл бұрын
I did use a tripod, yes, I do have a patreon but it's pretty new and there's not many people subscribed to it yet, the materials aren't terribly expensive where I live, the paint is the most expensive thing and I just added more and more colors over time so I wouldn't have to spend a ton of money at once :)
