How to Paint a Loose Watercolour Abstract - Industrial Landscape Tutorial

1 Inch Flat brush
As the name suggests this synthetic brush id 1” wide and flat; it is great for creating geometric shapes and lines. Other widths are available if preferred.

Paint
I use a variety of paint brands including Daniel Smith and Windsor & Newton in both the Cotman and Artist’s range. The Cotman colours are very economic to purchase and are used by both students and professional artists including Sophie Knight RWS. Colours used Cotman Ultramarine, Burnt Sienna, Alizarin Crimson and Raw Sienna.

Paper Bockingford
The paper used for this demonstration was Bockingford 140lb NOT. This is a 50% cotton rag paper with a clean white surface. I find Bockingford is a wonderful paper to use when I wish to create granulated effects in my paintings.

Palette
Manufactured by Stewart these are very light and strong. The large open mixing area encourages loose expressive colour mixing.

Once I read in a book by Khalil Gibran, the famous poet, that "the beauty is in the beholders eyes"... In this beholders eyes (the one who write those words) your paintings are among the best ever. Hi Anne I use this palette a lot. as all the colours are translucent and non staining you can make a wonderful variety of hues without worrying about creating muddy colours.

Hi Anne this work was painted on Bockingford 140lb NOT. I find Bockingford is great when you are looking for extreme granulation.
