Amazing artwork. Amazing commentary. After taking your realism class I really understand better what you are doing! I’m going to put on some music and go into an art trance, even if it turns out like crud at least it will read as freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

I love the way that you play Liron. Many artists do seek that brisk, free expression in painting. Some love the in-the-moment tactile enjoyment of the paint and brushstrokes but sacrifice realism. Others like plein air master Edgar Payne would create an entire 18x24” painting perfecting shape color, and value and then base the much larger painting from the tight, perfected painting. He said that he wanted to convey that he painted with ease and that he had more enjoyment of paint application after he had everything figured out. I’m still finding my way.

That's a great point, it seems there are different preferences. And creating a slow, detailed and realistic painting can be as engaged. I think I personally seek both (something I understand more and more as time goes on) How realistic can I make it with a direct approach (:

Liron...what amazes me about your art is the connect or flow you move in your painting...from top to bottom...for that i suppose your quick judgement to choose exact colour or tones and mixing it so fast makes all the difference
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
Yes, that's where experience comes into the picture. I simply do based on what I see. That quick circuit is what allows the flow to come.

Thank you - this is so dynamic! I accidentally bought some hot pressed paper, which forced me to abandon the first wash, 2nd wash, 3rd wash plan and paint more like this - starting in the center and building out. It's much more rewarding, because you have to be so thoroughly engaged - no do-overs. I'm glad I didn't take the paper back.

I’m always telling my students to look at what they are painting. See it don’t think it. Lol. You are absolutely an art philosopher. You explore watercolor along with exploring ideas and thoughts. This painting is so intriguing and captures a feeling. I love it!

LiRon, I feel that you have entered a watershed phase in your painting. You seem to be closing in on a confident loose, free, intuitive and beautiful style, your own style, of watercolor painting. Thank you for sharing your thoughts so well as this painting developed before our eyes. I wonder if the situation going on around you is in some way condensing your understanding of the medium, your strong feeling of freedom, your style. (Thanks also for sharing your reaction to Mission Gold’s Verditer Blue. I had seen that color several months ago and wanted it then but didn’t buy it because I saw it as a convenience color. It is truly attractive in your painting.) Thank you for being you! Stay safe, stay strong. In peace and love, Sheila. PS I hope Ruth is doing well, and your family too.❤💜
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
Thank you so much Sheila! 🙏😊♥ I really appreciate it. It does feel like an interesting stage in my painting journey. I've been gradually shedding more and more unnecessary elements and what is left is closer to my true style. I do still have a way to go, in the best way possible. In my vision I see where I can develop in a relatively short period of time from now. Even more flow, immediacy and uninterrupted watercolor magic. I'm not sure how the current situation influences it, but it definitely does. When I AM engaged with the process, I'm far more engaged than I used to be. Also, thank you so so much for bidding on the painting 🙏

There is such a benefit in knowing what your brush will do. When I was teaching oil painting the first class on the syllabus was " make love to your brush" . I wanted everybody to know how to prepare a new ( or old) brush, what marks their brushes would make ( pressure etc.) , how much paint would be held ( especially with the changing viscosity) , then proper cleaning for extending the life of the brush. Play time..hello btush...,

I wish I had a photo of my late husband on his Harley to have painted....wide shoulders and fringed jacket and boots...flying in the wind.....,.stay safe Liron.
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
@Diane Thank you so much 🙏😊 Usually I have the most fun painting shapes directly like that. And I know that if I preceived them accurately, by not painting cars but rather details - a car will appear 🎨 @Marjorie - Indeed, knowing the range and capabilities of your brushes has a big part here! Would have loved seeing that photo & maybe painting it, sounds badass!

Amazing painting showing movement in this Liron. I want to thank you for the tip about using the whole of the brush ( as in doing her helmet) rather than just the tip of the brush. I have struggled there but now thanks to you I have a solution to practise. You and your family are in my thoughts every day. Thank you again.

Awesome, so happy to hear ^_^ There are so many small "tricks" like this, and discovering them makes the process inherently freer. This is why I recommend heavy experimentation, these nuggets, when discovered spontaneously and through one's own experience are even more impactful.

Love your ability & willingness to talk about your process. This explains why my white horse last week turned out so well, about an hour and completely engaged with him. You do know you can turn any reference photo clothes into the colors you want (like blue and orange), seems you never pull that card. And wondering why you didn’t tape this down? It slipped a bit, seems like it would have been useful.
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
Thank you Lisa! 🙏😊 As for the colors, I sometimes make minor changes. But I usually snap photos of things I like, so no change is required for the most part. As for not taping, I find it easier to pick up the piece of paper and tilt it to control the flow. (As opposed to picking up the entire board). Just a quirck I started having lately haha, not sure why but I feel closer to the painting if I can directly grab the paper.

Very cool! I think part of the journey for me is actually picking (or framing) the subject in a meaningful way. How much effort is used in composing a painting for you?
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
Interesting! This was indeed cut from a larger photo. But it took about 20 seconds. This one was easy because I know I wanted her to be the focus and in the center. But if I have multiple points of interest, I tend to go for something a little more nuanced (usually the rule of thirds works well for me). But even that takes about a minute. I think at the end of the day - it's a sense / taste that develops with some experiment and trial and error. And at that point it's effortless ^_^
@sujanithtottempudi299111 ай бұрын
Liron...every medium has its own potential...engagement with the painting could be more in other media too..however i suppose the intensity of the moment has to be watercolour as Time and precision in deciding exact tones..quickly creates the timeline...maybe...
@LironYan11 ай бұрын
Yes, exactly! No doubt every media has its own form of engagement. The one difference is the short timeframe that allowes for more in watercolor, as an inherent quality of the medium.
