This is so stunning, I love how you describe the whole process! Btw I wanted to ask, do you use a reference for ur paintings?

This one I had something I wanted in my mind but I had to Google roses to pull up several so I could see some shapes I wanted. The color choices I had envisioned. The composition I worked out from my mind and changed things as I saw needed in the end. On other paintings sometimes I have a single reference but I make changes to them or I make it up as seen in my art journal videos. It just depends.

Being playful is not a shape dicription.every leaf is a different shape. This sadly is not for beginners. You make it beautiful. Mine looks like a pinkish blob of clay.😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂❤

You're right, being playful is not a shape description but a characteristic of the style. It's not meant to look realistic but be more of an impressionistic rose. Don't be hard on yourself, there is a lot to learn and by painting this, you have already learned some things 🙌. The biggest reason for your results is that you blended...a little too well. This is very common for beginners, but you can overcome it. You can also fix your rose. Add in the shadow colors. Let dry. Add in the highlights, let dry. Don't blend them. You've got this!
