There are actually multiple ways to paint furniture. You can mix latex paint with fabric softener, use a spray bottle with half fabric softener and half water to squirt the fabric as you go, you can use chalk paint, and finish it with a wax. Your method is one of several. It looks great. I especially like the blue velvet that you did. By the way, another DIY did a microfiber sofa, and did it to look like leather. She used the fabric softener mixed with paint method, and 2 years later, it was still great. Another person did a somewhat textured chair, used chalk paint, and wax, and also created a leather like look and feel.

I just painted my lime green sofa. I started using the country chic chalk paint but i underestimated the amount I needed and would have had to spend another $112 on paint - so i got upset. i had one coat of this beautiful coral color layed on top (would have needed several more) I ended up going in the garage and using our Behr flat dark everglade green color we painted our walls, diluted it 3 to 1 with water (mixed it with an old wisk) it only needed 2 coats and came out beautifully!!! really I see no need for expensive chalk paint - the couch of course isn't very soft but it was just a cheap poly sofa i bought online (canvas type feel) I should have used some softener but didn't' think of it til i saw your video. It was the cost difference of $150 dollars. I spent about 30 dollars on paint using wall interior paint diluted with water. :)

Everyt paint is different and country chic is a completely different formula than DIY paint . The paint I used has just nine ingredients and it’s five times more pigmented, than other paints. It enables you to water it down and use it like a dye so the fabric doesn’t get crunchy. Just like when you go to the grocery store there are 20 different kinds of bread and they all are different based on the ingredients.

I watched the videos of the velvet sofas you painted but was hesitant because the fabric was so different. This video is so helpful. I have a velvet like light teal that I want to paint with Bohemian Blue. I want to make sure I understand what you said about the paint to water ratio. Are you saying 1 part paint, 10 parts water? I though about that too and tested it, the paint clogged the sprayer and it still need to be worked down into the fibers, it also had an un even look from the spray marks. I'm sure though there are several ways to do this, we all create with different methods, this is just what has worked well for me :)

Do you get the piece cleaned before hand? Do you remove the cushions and paint the separately? My velvet shhhofa is super heavy :P
