Hi Dave, I am just starting to take a dip on painting at this time of my age. I find it relaxing and you're teaching videos really help me a lot because you explained it one step at a time. With persistence and consistent practice, I do hope that someday I will be able to paint like yours. Pls continue to create videos such as this because you are a blessing to many aspiring artists. May God bless you and always looking forward to your contents. Cheers!

The absolute Patience you exhibit is astonishing. I’m also glad you explained that you used to get frustrated with the going back and forth, but you told yourself that “You got this, you’re a painter, and you can do this...” it’s important for us to know how you get through those frustrating times, to get where you are today. Thank you!

I just subscribed because you really do have an interesting sense of color that is fascinating to watch. An example is the painting of the vase. You broke down the colors combined in violet and featured each of them on its own, pulling the colors into the rest of the painting. I think this is your particular gift and I'm glad to have seen it in action.The addition of greens was SO dramatically important, Was waiting for it! Yep, you are a good color man!!

I am so grateful for this tutorial. It's exactly what I am looking for. I'm 67 years old and, although I made my living with art, I have not done any real personal art for many years. Now that I'm retired I thought it would be fun to get back into painting which I haven't done for many years. I'm looking to use the style you just demonstrated. A more "impressionistic" look and feel. And it's florals that captivate me. So, you must have made this video just for me. A million thanks for the instruction and the inspiration!

I never recommend mixing brands. Older acrylics were no problem but newer generation acrylics like Heritage are very different. If you go to JansenArtStudio.com click the free videos, we are adding information about color mixing with limited colors. More is coming very soon.

SUBSCRIBED! And just purchased your Peony and Rose video on your website. Quick question... Do you only work with acrylics? Any thoughts on painting with oils with your videos? Thanks!
@JansenArtEducation5 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave. I only use Heritage. I used to be an oil painter. I had a terrible health scare with them when I was 25 and stopped. Never went back. Some video lessons you can do with oils, others where I do shear and what I call the "sticky" movment techniques it would be impossible. I also use my hands alot when I paint. I can do that because I know the Heritage is completely safe. It is a product I designed. They use the same pigments as oils and that is many think I am painting in oils. Today's new generation acrylics last longer and are much easier to use than the ones developed in the 70's and 80's. I love them and can do anything with them. I can even slow the drying down to 30 hours. So, I really don't need oils. Thanks so much! Go over to JansenArtOnline.com That is my online education website. There is a contact button there that goes directly to my email if you have questions about painting the flowers. Thanks!!!

David I have to ask....I believe you said the Heritage brand of acrylics can have an extended open time of 30 hours. Is that on the painting surface? How is this done? If I had 30 hours to achieve soft blends, I'd buy this paint tomorrow! Thanks for sharing!
@JansenArtEducation5 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, Yes on the painting surface. Of course you can spread it out really thin. Heritage is made for the artist to control. Normal drying time is about 15-40 minutes or so depending on how thick you apply the paint. Inside the tube is water (of course) and our Extender. If you put Extender out on your palette if will be there for days and days. It takes a lot of heat to dry it up, or a very long...long time. So, that said, inside the tube is water and extender, to make the colors dry longer you need to get rid of the water and replace with extender. So what we do is to put the colors in a small container. Add about 20% extender and stir.. Wait about 8 hours and stir. Do that for about 3 days and the water leaves the container of paint and you have one heck of a slow drying paint. The longer you let it set and evaporate the water the longer the drying time. I like to paint thick so I let is go for about 1 week. That is how we do it. Now, why do you want to blend something for 30 hours? Watch some of my rose video where I paint pure acrylic, no extender and paint "tones". It paints faster than blending and looks just like oils. :)
@Fred-ov5vb5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply David. The capabilities of the Heritage paint are fascinating. My interests in painting vary between still-lifes, landscapes, and portraits. I admire your skill and technique, and have learned much from your vids, but I'm a slow painter. I've used (regular) acrylics for years and have been frustrated when I wanted to take my time on an area of a painting that needed soft gradation. No, that's not to say I need 30 hours to blend. ;-) Still, it's amazing to think I could have a lot more time to relax and not feel rushed on an acrylic painting. I will be purchasing some Heritage acrylics and other materials you offer on your website. Thank you for your guidance and inspiration.
@JansenArtEducation5 жыл бұрын
Hi Fred, There are so many techniques to painting. Blending is only one of them. I am a 'tone painter". I never blend. Click this link and see a painting I finished this weekend. It is painted in 7 hours, using pure Heritage Acrylics. No blending. The newer generation acrylics can do so much! scontent-den4-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/67366412_3272731032744862_3718021336946180096_o.jpg?_nc_cat=100&_nc_oc=AQlLo73JWlsblnJW3IHAdyH_MnpZifT917CyWPm6wLOBo04X1N_HAqwbCQhSFLn_8KI&_nc_ht=scontent-den4-1.xx&oh=3ddea345eb6374e30210faf2d419cb5c&oe=5D9FCA71
