I've watched this video about 30 times. It was the first one I watched when I got back into painting last year, and I watch for a top up whenever I go back to do some AdMech. Best coach on KZbin. What a legend.

Absolutely awesome, can’t afford an airbrush so I always got to work around with others paint tutorials, but you showed just as good if not better quality with brushes! That’s an easy subscribe for me.

Hi, just watched your tutorial on painting imperial fist space marines. Amazing results. Can you do a video on watering down the citadel paints, and getting the correct consistency etc....I’m just getting back into painting after a very long time and need help!
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Hi David thanks a lot for the comment and welcome back to the hobby! I'm due to move into a new studio from July and all my videos will have the palette on screen as well - in the meantime, check out my 'Eavy Metal Ork skin tutorial - as I talk a nd show a little on paint consistency in that
@davidwootton58304 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Will take a look, and seeing the pallet in new videos would be great for me. Been away from hobby painting for 20 years! That’s showing my age....Lol. Always liked imperial fists though and your video has inspired me to try painting a few.

Hey do you plan to do any tutorials on the armoured vehicles and units in the mechanicus, such as kataphron servitors or vehicles as these tutorials are super helpful!
@ThePaintingCoach3 жыл бұрын
Possibly - although I can't guarantee I'll get chance!

is there a reason you went with agrax earthshade vs nuln oil? In the past I have seen you use nuln oil with red as well
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment Jason - in colour theory terms, brown is made from red and green. Green is opposite red on the colour wheel so is a good contrast colour Brown gives you a slightly more subtle shade as a result - nuln oil sill give you a much harsher effect

thank you so much for the video, that is absolutely brilliant! I am a super beginner painter so not very comfortable with various techniques, but could you have done the highlighting with drybrushing (especially on the cloak, as the area is wider than on the gun or other metallic surfaces)? If that's a really dumb idea (and it probably is), I am also interested in knowing why.. :) Thanks again!
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment - I'm glad you enjoyed it! As for drybrushing the cloak you can do - just be mindful you may come up with a bit of a chalky effect rather than a nice sharp highlight! Try it on some of the spare parts from the kit to see what it looks like :)
@kint924 жыл бұрын
@@ThePaintingCoach thanks for the speedy reply :) Good tip to try on unused spare parts, I'll give it a go. I don't have surgeon's hands like you to do a straight hair-thin highlighting line! I feel like drybrushing may be a bit more forgiving. Anyway, definitely subscribed. Your videos are really helpful. Keep up the great work!

Thanks - hey little secret - I didn't when I started haha - I just practiced - the muscle memory helps! Let me know how you get on - and I appreciate the sub!

I’m not sure I understand. You primed them with leadbelcher, but the model seems to have a bit of a brownish tint.

Your base coat spray - smooth, flawless. My Corax white spray base coat - bumpy, flaky, awful haha
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Disclaimer - the heck was shaken out of the Corax White! I also make the first spray into thin air - this blows off any dust/dry paint on the nozzle that would otherwise end up causing the flake effect

I LOVE the deep red you ended up with. Feels like all the other tutorials have this cartoony/local sports team bright flashy red that sticks out way too much. I really want the deep dark red to contrast with the vanguard's neon blue plasma coils and I think this is a great start. I do think I'd like the bottom of the cloak even darker than it is in yours though, any suggestions for that?
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! You could glaze some khorne red to make it darker but keep the vibrancy

How do you know whats the right shade to use? Like why agrax earthshade over nuln oil?
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
I guess in this case because it's lighter - ao as there aren't many folds agrax gives a nice transition. In comour theory terms, brown is made with red and green (opposite of red on colour wheel) so a brown shade gives a nice subtle effect Nuln oil is fine and can be used, but it will give you a darker appearance and is a little harder to cover over
@kvothe58244 жыл бұрын
@@ThePaintingCoach that makes sense. There are so many shades and im trying to learn when to apply what.
@ThePaintingCoach4 жыл бұрын
Feel free to ask any Q's! In general, i use nuln oil on silver metallics, agrax on organic areas such as cloth and reikland fleshshade on skin and gold metallics Outside of that I try to use a colour complements so of I'm using greens, I may use biel tan green or coelia greenshade, for blue, drakenhoff nighyshade etc
